The silence breaker

Harshvarrdhan Kapoor has finally addressed the whispers about his long break from acting. The actor, who hasn’t been seen on screen since the 2022 Netflix film Thar, took to social media on June 8 to set the record straight. When a fan wondered why he seemed to have stepped away from the limelight despite earning praise for his work, Harshvarrdhan didn’t hold back.

In a candid response, he clarified that he hasn’t quit acting at all. Instead, he’s been deep in the trenches working on a new film that he’s also producing. “I haven’t stepped back at all. Been working on a new one since the day Thar released,” he wrote, adding that the project has taken him two to three years and is set to wrap filming on June 30.

The long road to cinema

Harshvarrdhan explained that his kind of cinema takes time—unlike mainstream stars who churn out multiple films a year. He pointed out that films like Bhavesh Joshi Superhero, Thar, AK vs AK, and Ray require patience and passion. “If you want films like Bhavesh and Thar and AK vs AK/Ray, it’s not gonna happen once or twice a year. That’s just the reality,” he said.

The actor also reminded fans that Thar itself took five years to make, and Bhavesh Joshi Superhero was a long journey for director Vikramaditya Motwane. Harshvarrdhan’s approach is clearly about quality over quantity. “I guess people are used to actors doing multiple films a year,” he added, acknowledging the contrast.

What’s next for Harshvarrdhan?

The actor seems more confident than ever about his upcoming venture. “The new film is the best one yet, 100 percent. It’s extremely unique,” he promised. While he didn’t spill details about the plot or cast, the buzz is real. Harshvarrdhan made his debut with Rakeysh Omprakash Mehra’s Mirzya and worked as an assistant director on Anurag Kashyap’s Bombay Velvet before stepping in front of the camera.

His last film, Thar, co-starring his father Anil Kapoor, was a neo-western thriller that earned love for its unconventional storytelling and stylish visuals. Now, with a new project in the pipeline, fans can expect more of that offbeat magic. As Harshvarrdhan puts it, “Thank you, and the new film is the best one yet.” We’re watching.
