From Rs 400 to Leading Man

Vijay Sethupathi took the stage at the Chennai launch of the ‘Slumdog’ teaser and left the audience teary-eyed with a throwback to his struggling days. The actor revealed that he once worked as a junior artist on the set of ‘M. Kumaran Son of Mahalakshmi’ for just Rs 400. He even reminded director Puri Jagannadh of that fact, noting that the original version of that film was helmed by Puri sir himself.

“From earning Rs 400 as a junior artist to now acting as a hero in his film, I feel truly honoured and grateful,” Sethupathi said, summing up a journey that has seen him rise from a background player to one of the most respected performers in Indian cinema.

Praise for Puri Jagannadh and VTV Ganesh

The actor didn’t hold back his admiration for Puri Jagannadh, calling him a filmmaker with extraordinary clarity and dedication. “Puri sir keeps writing all the time. Once he finishes one story, he immediately starts thinking about another,” Sethupathi shared, expressing confidence that ‘Slumdog’ could become one of the finest films in the director’s career.

He also had warm words for VTV Ganesh, whose positive energy on set made a big impact. “My perception of him changed while working on this film. He would guide me and keep the atmosphere lively by making everyone laugh,” the actor said, crediting Ganesh for maintaining a fun and supportive environment.

Gratitude and High Hopes for ‘Slumdog’

Sethupathi made sure to thank producer Charmme Kaur and the entire production team for their care during the shoot. “The production house took excellent care of all of us throughout the shoot,” he said, also praising the behind-the-scenes efforts. Ending on a confident note, he added, “I believe this film will bring great success and profits to the producers.”

‘SlumDog – 33 Temple Road’ is an upcoming pan-India action drama directed by Puri Jagannadh, starring Vijay Sethupathi in the lead role alongside Tabu, Samyuktha, Duniya Vijay, VTV Ganesh, and Brahmaji. The teaser has already created a stir with its mix of action, emotions, and intense drama.
