New date, new strategy
Alia Bhatt and Sharvari’s spy thriller ‘Alpha’ is reportedly sprinting to the big screens a week early. According to industry sources, the film will now hit theatres on July 3, 2026, instead of the previously announced July 10. This marks the fourth release date for the project, which was originally slated for 2025 before shifting to April 2026 and then to July 10.
Trade insiders reveal that the decision came after ‘Dhamaal 4’ vacated the July 3 slot by moving to July 17. With no major Hindi film currently occupying that weekend, ‘Alpha’ seized the opportunity. A source close to the production told a portal, ‘July 3 has become the best day for Alpha. Dhamaal 4 is out of the way, and nothing major is scheduled for that weekend.’
The move also helps the film avoid a direct clash with Disney’s highly anticipated live-action ‘Moana’, which is set for July 10. By arriving a week earlier, ‘Alpha’ can enjoy a two-week headstart at the domestic box office and a week-long run internationally before facing new competition.
A packed July at the movies
July 2026 is shaping up to be a blockbuster month. The fun begins with ‘Minions and Monsters’ on July 1, followed by ‘Alpha’ on July 3. ‘Moana’ drops on July 10, while Christopher Nolan’s ‘The Odyssey’ and ‘Dhamaal 4’ are both slated for July 17. With such a crowded calendar, ‘Alpha’s early arrival could be a smart tactical play.
Insiders say the studio locked the new date after a clear window opened up at the domestic box office. While an official announcement from YRF is still awaited, reports suggest the team is confident about the revised timeline.
What to expect from ‘Alpha’
Touted as the first female-led instalment in the YRF spy universe, ‘Alpha’ stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari in lead roles. The franchise has previously been dominated by male super-spies played by Salman Khan, Hrithik Roshan, and Shah Rukh Khan. According to buzz, Alia’s character could be an assassin turned spy, adding a fresh twist to the universe.
Rumours are also swirling about potential cameos — Hrithik may reprise his role as Kabir from the ‘War’ franchise, and SRK is speculated to return as ‘Pathaan’. However, no official confirmations have been made. With the release now just over a year away, fans can expect more updates soon.
