RJ Balaji’s Karuppu has turned out to be one of the biggest success stories for Tamil cinema in 2026. The Suriya and Trisha Krishnan starrer has been pulling audiences back to theatres, giving Kollywood a much-needed boost. After two weeks of solid run, the film is now closing in on some major milestones – but fresh competition might slow down its march.

Karuppu’s Box Office Journey So Far

According to industry tracking data, Karuppu collected Rs 3.25 crore net in India on Day 15, a 34.3% drop from the previous day’s Rs 4.95 crore. Despite the dip, the film held steady across 3,024 shows. Its total India net collection now stands at Rs 171.40 crore, while the India gross is Rs 198.28 crore. Overseas markets contributed Rs 1.75 crore gross on Day 15, taking the overseas total to Rs 75.75 crore. The worldwide gross has reached an impressive Rs 274.03 crore.

The film is now eyeing Rajinikanth’s Enthiran (Rs 291 crore) and Thalapathy Vijay’s Varisu (Rs 298 crore). Crossing these would push Karuppu into the top 10 highest-grossing Tamil films of all time and bring it closer to the coveted Rs 300 crore club.

New Releases Pose a Challenge

But the road ahead isn’t easy. Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 is still attracting family audiences and thriller lovers. On Day 9, the film collected Rs 4.30 crore net across 2,524 shows, with its India gross at Rs 100.08 crore. Meanwhile, Antony Varghese’s Kattalan opened strong with Rs 3.80 crore net on its first day across 3,358 shows. These two films have divided audience attention, reducing Karuppu‘s monopoly in key southern markets. As trade insiders say, the competition is real – and it’s going to test Karuppu‘s legs in its third week.

Can Karuppu Hit Rs 300 Crore?

With a worldwide gross of Rs 274.03 crore already in the bag, Karuppu needs roughly Rs 26 crore more to enter the exclusive Rs 300 crore club. Early estimates suggest the film could collect between Rs 2.75 crore and Rs 3.50 crore net on Day 16. Weekend footfalls might provide some support, but Drishyam 3 and Kattalan are likely to limit major growth. Still, if the film holds steady through the weekend and continues its strong overseas run, surpassing both Enthiran and Varisu looks achievable. The next few days will decide whether Karuppu can achieve the bada dhamaka of Rs 300 crore. For now, all eyes are on the weekend numbers – picture abhi baaki hai, as they say.
