Day 15: Steady Despite Dip
Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest comedy sequel ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ is proving that good content never goes out of style. The film, which hit theatres on May 15, has completed two weeks and is now inching towards the Rs 60 crore mark at the worldwide box office. Despite facing fresh competition, the movie continues to hold its ground, with audiences still flocking to theatres for a laugh riot.
On its 15th day – which was the second Friday – the film collected Rs 1.25 crore net in India across 2,458 shows, as per industry estimates. That’s a 28.6% drop from its second Thursday, but still respectable given the new releases gobbling up screen space. The total India net collection now stands at Rs 43.20 crore, while the India gross has touched Rs 51.26 crore. The film opened to around Rs 4.5 crore on day one and maintained a steady run through week one, raking in Rs 29 crore in the first seven days. In the second week, it saw expected dips but remained consistent, with daily collections ranging from Rs 1.20 crore to Rs 3.25 crore. The second Friday’s numbers only reaffirm that the word of mouth is strong.
New Releases Cut Screen Share
The film is now running alongside May 22 releases like Lakshya and Ananya Panday’s ‘Chand Mera Dil’ and Hollywood biggie ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and the Grogu’. Naturally, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ has lost some screens and shows to these new arrivals. But the audience that wanted to see Ayushmann, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Sara Ali Khan’s chemistry is still showing up. Trade insiders say the comedy has found its loyal audience, and the drop in the number of shows hasn’t hurt its per-screen average too badly. With no major Bollywood releases in the coming week, the film could continue to mint money in its third weekend.
Worldwide: Rs 60 Crore Within Reach
Overseas, the film has earned Rs 7.65 crore, taking the total worldwide gross to Rs 58.91 crore. That Rs 60 crore mark is just a stone’s throw away, and trade analysts are confident it will cross the milestone this weekend. With strong word of mouth and limited competition in the comedy genre, the film could end its theatrical run with a healthy total. Starring Ayushmann Khurrana, Wamiqa Gabbi, and Sara Ali Khan in lead roles, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ also features Vijay Raaz, Tigmanshu Dhulia, and Ayesha Raza Mishra in supporting parts. The film is a sequel to the 2019 hit ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh’ and has been praised for its laugh-out-loud moments and solid performances.
