A Father’s Hope vs. Sons’ Passion
Bobby Deol is ready to pass the torch. In a candid chat on Aap Ki Adalat, the actor revealed that both his sons, Aryaman (21) and Dharam, are dead set on becoming actors — despite his best efforts to steer them toward other careers.
“I made my elder son study finance. He went to New York University and passed with honours. He was really good at studies. I thought maybe he would do something else, settle in America, build a career there and we’d visit him,” Bobby shared. But Aryaman had other plans. “He wanted to become an actor.”
Now, the young Deol is training and polishing his craft before making his big debut. “He’s learning now. He’s trying acting and working on himself,” Bobby added.
Self-Taught Filmmaker and Photographer
Aryaman isn’t just relying on family connections. During the COVID lockdown, he taught himself the nuts and bolts of filmmaking — editing, sound design, dubbing — all from scratch. “He taught himself everything,” Bobby said proudly.
He also got serious about his physique and dance. “He worked on his body. He trained himself in dance by watching YouTube videos. He put in a lot of hard work,” the actor revealed. Later, Aryaman spent a year learning photography under veteran lensman Avinash Gowariker. “He went through a phase after COVID where he became very anxious. Avinash told me to send him over. He worked with him for a year and learned photography.”
Fun fact: Most of Bobby’s Instagram photos are actually clicked by Aryaman. “I usually credit him, but he has shut down his Instagram because he doesn’t care about followers,” Bobby laughed.
Deol Dynasty Continues
When asked if both his sons dream of being heroes, Bobby smiled and said, “Both my sons want to become heroes. What can I do?” He reasoned that the film industry has a magnetic pull. “This industry is such that whether you’re a doctor, engineer or from any other profession, somewhere in your heart you feel that maybe you can become an actor too.”
Aryaman and Dharam are now set to carry forward the Deol legacy — a line that includes grandfather Dharmendra and uncle Sunny Deol. With Aryaman’s self-taught skills and determination, Bobby seems both amused and proud. “He is very talented,” he said. “He put in a lot of hard work.”
