Bobby’s Heartbreak Over Losing the Hit Film
Bobby Deol has finally opened up about one of the biggest what-ifs of his career. The actor recently appeared on Aap Ki Adalat and got candid about losing the iconic film Jab We Met during a tough phase in his professional life. While the film went on to become a massive blockbuster with Shahid Kapoor and Kareena Kapoor Khan, Bobby admitted that missing out hit him hard.
“That story is done now. We’re friends. My heart got broken because I needed a film like this during that phase of my career,” Bobby revealed. The actor explained that he was closely involved with the development of the film long before it was made, and watching it succeed without him was a bitter pill to swallow.
But instead of letting the disappointment consume him, Bobby chose to turn the pain into motivation. He said, “These things do happen. It never happens that only good things happen to someone.” The actor added that the experience taught him resilience and helped him grow both personally and professionally.
How Bobby Almost Made the Film With Imtiaz Ali
Bobby also shared his early belief in filmmaker Imtiaz Ali’s talent. According to the actor, he was deeply impressed by Imtiaz’s work while the director was making Socha Na Tha with Abhay Deol. “I had great confidence in Imtiaz since the time when he was making Socha Na Tha with Abhay. When I watched the rough cut, I was so taken in and excited by his work. I thought he’s such a good director; I should work with him,” Bobby recalled.
The two initially planned to make a film together, but securing backing proved difficult. Bobby explained that the industry’s perception of an actor’s market value often influences whether projects get greenlit. “That’s when we first decided we’d make a film together. But when your market position isn’t good, nobody backs you. So much time passed trying to get the film started. The production house I pitched it to said Imtiaz is a very expensive director. But the same production house ended up making the film with Imtiaz, and with the same heroine I’d gotten on board,” he revealed.
Despite the setback, Bobby said he chose not to hold on to bitterness. Instead, he used the experience as fuel to improve himself. “When I began working on myself, I decided the hurt and anger I’ve gone through should become my strength. Because you can’t just keep crying about it. These things made me a better person and a better actor. I’ve only learnt from them. I don’t have any qualms with anyone,” he asserted.
Bobby’s Career Resurgence and What’s Next

The actor has been winning hearts with his powerful performances and has become one of the most sought-after talents in Bollywood once again. Up next, Bobby will be seen in filmmaker Anurag Kashyap’s highly anticipated film Bandar, which is set to release in theatres on June 5, 2026. Fans are eagerly waiting to see what Bobby brings to the table in this new venture.
