Bobby opens up about his school days
Bobby Deol recently took a walk down memory lane and shared some absolutely hilarious – and slightly painful – childhood stories. The actor appeared on Aap Ki Adaalat and revealed that his mother, Prakash Kaur, was the disciplinarian of the Deol household. While she was a loving mom, she didn’t hesitate to bring out the slippers when Bobby misbehaved.
During the chat, host Rajat Sharma mentioned that Bobby was reportedly good at studies. The actor quickly shut that down. “Not at all,” he said with a laugh. “I used to get beaten a lot for not going to school. I actually did not like school.”
The Hindi-English drama
Bobby revealed that his biggest problem was his love for speaking Hindi. “My problem was that when I was young, I used to speak mostly in Hindi. Since the school was English medium, my mother used to get complaints from the school that if your son talks in Hindi then you should put him in Hindi medium,” he shared.
Those complaints would lead to scoldings at home – and sometimes worse. Bobby eventually worked hard on his English and now mostly thinks in the language. But back then, his mother wasn’t having any of it.
“So sometimes, early in the morning, luckily my house was nearby, so my mother used to take me to school while beating me,” Bobby recalled with a grin. One day, the school principal made things even worse by telling his mother, “Your son does not want to study, take him back right now.” Bobby said, “I instantly felt he should not have said so, because she took me back home while beating me the whole way again.”
Slippers were her weapon of choice
When asked about the beating implement, Bobby laughed and said, “She used to beat me with slippers mostly, it was her go-to weapon.” The Deol family has always spoken about Prakash Kaur’s strength – she raised Sunny, Bobby, Vijeta, and Ajita alongside superstar Dharmendra. Dharmendra later married Hema Malini in 1980.
On the work front, Bobby is gearing up for some exciting projects. He will next be seen in Bandar, an action thriller directed by Anurag Kashyap, hitting theatres on June 5. He’s also part of Alpha, which stars Alia Bhatt and Sharvari.
