Second Monday numbers show resilience
Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 is proving it has serious legs at the box office. After a solid weekend push, the film saw the usual second Monday slowdown but still managed to add Rs 50 lakh to its kitty by 4 PM. With the total India net collection now sitting pretty at Rs 97 crore, the film is inching closer to the coveted Rs 100 crore club in India alone.
Overseas, the film has already earned Rs 111 crore gross, taking its worldwide total to an impressive Rs 223 crore. Industry insiders say this makes it one of the biggest Malayalam blockbusters of the year, and the numbers back that up. The film opened with Rs 15.85 crore on day one and has maintained steady momentum ever since — no small feat given the crowded release calendar.
Day 11 saw the film earn Rs 5.35 crore, with an additional Rs 2.50 crore from international markets. The weekend boost was enough to keep the film in contention despite facing stiff competition from multiple big-ticket releases.
Tough competition from Bollywood heavyweights
Drishyam 3 didn’t have an easy ride. The film clashed with Akshay Kumar’s Bhoot Bangla, Riteish Deshmukh’s Raja Shivaji, Suriya’s Karuppu, and the Ayushmann Khurrana-Sara Ali Khan starrer Pati Patni Aur Woh Do. Also releasing on the same day was Lakshya Lalwani and Ananya Panday’s Chand Mera Dil. That’s a brutal lineup for any film, but Drishyam 3 held its ground.
According to industry estimates, the film earned Rs 0.10 crore in Kannada, Rs 4.85 crore in Malayalam, Rs 0.20 crore in Tamil, and Rs 0.20 crore in Telugu on its second Monday — showing broad appeal across South Indian markets. The Malayalam version continues to be the strongest contributor, which is no surprise given the franchise’s massive fanbase in Kerala.
Week 1 collections stood at Rs 81.95 crore, and the film is now inching toward Rs 100 crore in India. With no major new releases in the coming week, trade experts predict the film could easily cross that milestone.
Mohanlal’s Georgekutty wins hearts again
Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 brings back Mohanlal as the beloved Georgekutty, and fans can’t get enough. The film also stars Meena, Ansiba Hassan, Esther Anil, Asha Sharath, and Siddique in key roles. Produced by Antony Perumbavoor under the Aashirvad Cinemas banner, the film released on May 21.
Critics and audiences alike have praised Mohanlal’s performance, calling it the film’s biggest highlight. The franchise has always been known for its tight storytelling and nail-biting suspense, and the third instalment seems to have lived up to expectations. Reports suggest that the film’s second half has particularly impressed viewers, leaving them eagerly waiting for what’s next.
With a solid run at the box office and strong word-of-mouth, Drishyam 3 is shaping up to be another feather in Mohanlal’s cap — and a massive win for Malayalam cinema on the national stage.
