Comedy vs. Drama: Madhuri’s Take
Madhuri Dixit is all set to tickle your funny bone after a long break from comedy with her upcoming film Maa Behen. The actress, who has ruled Bollywood for over four decades, recently got candid about why comedy is actually harder than intense dramatic roles.
While chatting with the director Suresh Triveni, Madhuri dropped some serious wisdom. “Intensity you can keep throughout, but the freshness – doing the same thing each time and keeping it fresh – is very difficult. The intensity you can carry throughout the day. You are angry or sad, but in this (comedy), it has to look like it’s happening for the first time. That is difficult,” she explained.
Triveni had earlier mentioned that comedy sets are easier on actors because they don’t need to sustain high intensity through long shoot days. But Madhuri begged to differ, pointing out that comedy demands a different kind of energy—one that makes every take feel spontaneous and new.
Madhuri’s Comedy Legacy
Madhuri has given us some iconic comic moments in classics like Tezaab, Raja, and Dil. But she admits that those films were full-on masala entertainers with everything thrown in. “Those films used to have everything. There is comedy, romance, full masala. It wasn’t that we didn’t get to do it (comedy), but I hadn’t done a comedy in between. This was something I could sink my teeth into,” she said.
The actress is clearly excited about diving deep into pure comedy after a long gap. And with her impeccable timing, fans are already buzzing about what she’ll bring to the screen.
