Romance is her favourite genre

Medha Shankr, who won hearts with her understated performance in 12th Fail, has a soft spot for love stories — both on screen and off. The actress recently opened up about being a hopeless romantic and revealed that this year, she’s making a conscious effort to balance her professional ambitions with her personal life.

“I am a very romantic person. I love romance. So, apart from the good work that I am looking forward to doing, I must say that I am also giving equal importance to my personal life this year. Of course, there’s nothing happening in my personal life and so I want to focus on it,” she shared with a candid smile.

Medha recently starred in the romantic comedy Ginny Wedss Sunny 2, where she got to explore a lighter, more romantic side compared to the intense realism of 12th Fail. The film, directed by Prasshant Jha, tells the story of a solitary wrestler whose life is turned around by an independent young woman. It released theatrically on April 24, 2026.

Comfort films and melancholy rom-coms

When it comes to her own viewing preferences, Medha revealed she enjoys films that mix romance with a touch of emotional depth. “I really like The Holiday. It’s such a comfort film. I also like Love & Other Drugs. I like a little melancholy in my romantic comedy films,” she said.

The actress seems to have a clear idea of the kind of stories she wants to tell — ones that feel real but also allow for a bit of heartache and healing. It’s no surprise that she’s drawn to roles that let her showcase vulnerability along with charm.

From reel to runway — a new experience

Beyond acting, Medha stepped into the fashion world earlier this year when she turned showstopper for designer Suneet Varma at the Bombay Times Fashion Week. Walking the runway alongside professional models was a thrilling challenge. “To walk alongside models who have done this for a very long time is not easy. So, there was pressure, but it was fun, too and I loved the experience,” she admitted.

With a growing filmography and a willingness to explore different genres — from hard-hitting drama to breezy rom-coms — Medha Shankr appears to be embracing both personal and professional growth. As she looks ahead to the next phase of her career, fans can expect more love stories and perhaps a little more insight into her own romantic journey.
