A Slow But Steady Climb
Ayushmann Khurrana’s latest comedy-drama ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ continues to hold its own at the box office, showing a slight uptick in collections on its 17th day. The film, which hit theatres on May 15, is now in its third week and proving that word-of-mouth can still work wonders in Bollywood — even without a massive opening.
Directed by Mudassar Aziz, the film brings together an ensemble cast including Sara Ali Khan alongside Ayushmann, with supporting turns from Ayesha Raza Mishra, Tighmanshu Dhulia, Vishal Vashishtha, Vijay Raaz, and Durgesh Kumar. While the film didn’t break any opening weekend records, it has managed to sustain a decent run thanks to positive chatter and the absence of any major big-budget competition in its early weeks.
Box Office Numbers Breakdown
According to early estimates from trade sources, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ earned approximately Rs 2 crore from 2,642 shows across India on Day 17 (the third Saturday). That represents a 14.3% jump from the previous day’s Rs 1.75 crore — a welcome sign for the team, yaar.
Here’s how the domestic net collection stacks up so far: Week 1 brought in Rs 29 crore, Week 2 added another Rs 12.95 crore, and the third weekend is off to a promising start. Day 15 saw Rs 1.25 crore, Day 16 collected Rs 1.75 crore, and Day 17’s Rs 2 crore brings the total India net to Rs 46.95 crore. In gross terms, India stands at Rs 55.76 crore, while overseas markets have contributed Rs 7.65 crore in gross collections, pushing the worldwide total to a solid Rs 63.41 crore.
Not bad at all for a situational comedy that’s clearly finding its audience slowly but surely.
Facing Off Competition
From its second week onwards, the film has been sharing screens with Vivek Soni’s ‘Chand Mera Dil’, starring Ananya Panday and Lakshya, and the Hollywood release ‘Star Wars: The Mandalorian and Grogu’. Entering the third week, it’s also up against ‘The Great Grand Superhero’ and the psychological horror ‘Obsession’. Despite this lineup, ‘Pati Patni Aur Woh Do’ has managed to hold its ground — a testament to its loyal fanbase.
Insiders say the film’s steady run is a relief for the makers, especially given the current box office climate where many mid-budget films struggle to find footing. With no major tentpole release in sight for the next couple of weeks, the Ayushmann starrer might just continue its quiet victory lap at the ticket counters.
Bhai, if you haven’t caught it yet, maybe this is your cue — the numbers don’t lie.
