Taapsee’s Fitness Reality Check
Bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu is done with the pressure to have a perfectly flat stomach. In a candid Instagram post, she revealed how she used to over-exercise trying to get rid of her lower belly fat, only to realise she was doing more harm than good. The ‘Assi’ star admitted she grew up fit but was always confused about that stubborn pouch, leading to a gruelling routine that backfired. She recalled how her body started retaining water instead of losing it—a classic sign of overtraining. “When you over-push yourself, it rings an alarm in your brain that your body needs protection,” she shared, urging women to listen to their bodies instead of chasing Instagram-perfect abs.
Taapsee’s honesty struck a chord with fans, many of whom face similar struggles in a world obsessed with six-packs and zero belly fat. She emphasised that the constant pressure to look a certain way can actually harm physical and mental health. “It’s supposed to be healthy to have that little bit of bulge and have that fat there,” she said, adding that women should stop “torturing” themselves for a few pictures.
The Science Behind the Bulge
After consulting health expert Munmun Ganeriwal, Taapsee learned that a little lower belly fat is biologically essential. That area protects the reproductive organs, and water retention can actually be a sign that the body is working correctly. She explained that over-exercising triggers a defensive mechanism where the body holds onto fluids instead of releasing them. “So instead of actually losing water retention, the body starts retaining it, and then that lower belly fat, which might actually not just be fat, it’s also water retention, it stays, and it increases by overworking out,” she warned.
The actress is now on a mission to spread awareness about female biology and fitness. She wants women to prioritise health over aesthetics and not fall for the curated images they see on social media. “Please don’t torture yourself,” she repeated, making it clear that a little belly bulge is nothing to be ashamed of.
Upcoming Projects and More
On the work front, Taapsee was recently seen in Anubhav Sinha’s courtroom drama ‘Assi’, which also starred Kani Kusruti, Revathy, and Manoj Pahwa. The film received critical acclaim for its hard-hitting narrative. Next up, she has the Netflix thriller ‘Gandhari’, directed by Devashish Makhija and written by Kanika Dhillon. The story follows a mother searching for her missing child, and Taapsee promises it will be a gripping watch. With Swastika Mukherjee and Ishwak Singh also in the cast, ‘Gandhari’ is set for a global streaming release later this year. Taapsee continues to balance her advocacy for body positivity with a busy film schedule—proof that you can have both a healthy belly and a thriving career.
