CBFC Orders Multiple Modifications

Just days before its theatrical release, David Dhawan’s comedy entertainer Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai has cleared the CBFC formalities, but not without a few nips and tucks. Industry sources reveal the film was granted a U/A 16+ certificate after the Examining Committee suggested several changes.

A few dialogues were reportedly altered after certain words were deemed unsuitable for the rating. The board also flagged an offensive hand gesture in one visual and asked the makers to replace it. But the most interesting tweak involves a condom brand – the brand name on screen was blurred, and even audio mentions of flavour-related terms were muted.

Cricket fans might spot another edit. A sequence featuring England cricketers Jos Buttler and Ben Stokes was shortened to just six seconds. The visual was also modified to meet the board’s guidelines. Additionally, a dance sequence had to be reframed because undergarments of female performers were visible. The makers were told to zoom in on faces and upper bodies to avoid any objectionable content.

After all revisions were implemented, the censor certificate was issued on May 27. The film’s final runtime clocks in at 136 minutes and 40 seconds – roughly 2 hours and 17 minutes of pure comedy.

Star-Studded Cast And Classic Dhawan Comedy

This marks another rib-tickling outing from veteran filmmaker David Dhawan, known for delivering blockbuster entertainers over the decades. The film stars his son Varun Dhawan alongside Mrunal Thakur and Pooja Hegde in lead roles. The ensemble cast also includes Maniesh Paul, Chunky Pandey, Jimmy Shergill, Mouni Roy, Rakesh Bedi, Ali Asgar and Rajesh Kumar – each bringing their own brand of humour.

Produced by Ramesh Taurani under the Tips Films banner, the film promises a blend of humour, romance and family drama – quintessential David Dhawan style. The makers have already kicked off promotional activities, and the buzz around the film is palpable.

Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is slated to hit theatres on June 5. That’s a Friday release, giving it a full weekend to woo audiences.

Post-IPL Window And Box Office Hopes

The film arrives right after the conclusion of IPL 2026, when theatres are looking to bounce back with fresh content. Trade analysts are keeping a close watch on whether this comedy caper can convert pre-release curiosity into strong footfalls. With a runtime under 2.5 hours and a censor certificate that allows family audiences, the stage is set for a dhamakedar entertainer.

Whether it’s Varun’s comic timing, David Dhawan’s signature style, or the ensemble cast’s chemistry – audiences will judge on June 5. But one thing’s for sure: the film has already made headlines for what got cut, not just for what stayed in.
