The trailer launch of Cocktail 2 in Mumbai was a chaotic affair, but the team more than made up for it with some candid and hilarious conversations. Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon, Rashmika Mandanna, producers Dinesh Vijan, Luv Ranjan, Ankur Garg, director Homi Adajania, and music director Pritam Chakraborty gathered at a restobar to unveil the trailer. But the real highlight? The team finally breaking their silence on the long-running rumour that Kriti and Rashmika play a lesbian couple in the film.
The Chaotic Trailer Launch
The event was a bit of a mess, honestly. Poor sound system and chaotic management made it tough for mediapersons to hear or see the stars on stage. But the cast and crew’s candid banter saved the day. The rumour about Kriti and Rashmika’s characters has been floating around for months, and the team decided to address it head-on.
Producer Dinesh Vijan kicked off the conversation, saying, “I want Rashmika to explain. There are a lot of rumours that you and Kriti are a couple in the film. Do you want to clear that right now?” Before Rashmika could answer, Kriti jumped in with a sly remark, hinting that the rumours were coming from one place — Shahid Kapoor.
The Lesbian Rumour Finally Addressed
Shahid, looking genuinely surprised, shot back, “I didn’t say anything, guys! Why would I do that? Kahan se aa rahe hai yeh rumours? Kaun faila raha hai?” The actor seemed clueless about how the speculation started. Kriti then revealed how she first met Rashmika — at a shared workout studio. “I literally died because she works out like a beast!” Kriti laughed. Rashmika added that they bonded instantly with no effort.
Shahid cheekily asked if their natural chemistry is why people think it’s a lesbian love story. Kriti didn’t hold back: “It’s really sad. When two guys are thick friends, it is termed as ‘bromance’ but when it comes to girls, people don’t want to believe that they can be friends. Ya toh inme rivalry hai ya fir dono mein kuch aur chal raha hai.”
Director Homi Adajania then revealed the real origin of the rumour. “We were all sitting together on the sets. They get very cuddly with each other because they are friends. We just hypothetically thought that what if the story was about them, with Shahid being the third wheel? I just said ‘I don’t mind making a film like that’.” Dinesh Vijan quickly interrupted, “Guys, we were supposed to clear this out! As you see in the trailer, there are two love stories. Purana love, naya love aur yeh ‘luv’ (pointing at Luv Ranjan)! Aur kisi ka love nahin hai picture mein!”
Shahid’s Bromance vs. Female Friendship
The exchange highlighted a double standard that Kriti was quick to call out. While male friendships are celebrated as bromance, close female friendships often get romanticised or questioned. The team’s playful banter made it clear that the rumour was just that — a rumour. Cocktail 2 actually features two separate love stories, as the trailer shows. Shahid’s character is caught between old love and new love, but no lesbian angle exists.
For now, fans can look forward to the film hitting cinemas on June 19. The trailer launch may have been chaotic, but the team’s chemistry and humour ensured everyone left with a smile — and a few laughs about the wild speculation.
