The Don 3 controversy just got a whole lot legal. After weeks of tension between Farhan Akhtar’s Excel Entertainment and Ranveer Singh, the Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) dropped a bombshell last week – a non-cooperation directive against the actor. Now, veteran producer T P Aggarwal has stepped in, filing a petition in Bombay Civil Court that could change the game for everyone involved.
Court Steps Into the Ring
On June 1, a petition was filed by T P Aggarwal in the Bombay Civil Court at Dindoshi against both FWICE and the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA). The veteran producer, who served as IMPPA president for 17 years and was elected FFI president four times, is questioning the very legitimacy of such a ban. In his petition, Aggarwal argues that no individual or organisation has the right to issue a non-cooperation directive against any film industry member.
According to sources, the court notice has already been served to both parties. This development comes after FWICE declared that its directive against Ranveer Singh will remain active until the dispute with Excel Entertainment is resolved and the actor meets FWICE officials. But Aggarwal isn’t having any of it – he firmly believes this is an overreach of power.
Aggarwal’s Strong Stand
T P Aggarwal didn’t mince words when addressing the media. He stated, “The film industry thrives on collaboration, and it is important that matters of this nature are addressed through proper legal and professional channels. Any attempt to discourage people from working with an individual should not be taken lightly. Such actions can have far-reaching consequences for livelihoods and creative freedom, and therefore must be dealt with in a fair, transparent, and lawful manner.”
Going further, the producer revealed that this isn’t the first time such a matter has been challenged. “Whatever FWICE has done is completely wrong and it’s not within their jurisdiction. It’s not something they can do. We had gone to the Competition Commission (CCI) in 2017 and the court had also given a verdict that they cannot do this, that it does not fall within their rights,” he said. This reference to a 2017 ruling could be a key point in the current case.
What Happens Next?
With the court now involved, the ball is in FWICE’s court – pun intended. The directive against Ranveer Singh had put a major question mark over the future of Don 3, with many wondering if the film would even go on floors. But Aggarwal’s petition might just open a door for the actor and the production house to resolve things without a complete breakdown.
Industry insiders are watching closely. Will FWICE backtrack? Will Ranveer Singh meet the officials as demanded? Or will the court strike down the directive entirely? One thing is clear – this is no longer just a Bollywood ka jhagda, it’s a full-blown legal battle. And with a producer of Aggarwal’s stature backing the challenge, FWICE better have its paperwork ready. Stay tuned, Cinecrazy readers – Don 3 ki kahani abhi khatam nahi hui.
