Obsession’s Box Office Numbers So Far
The horror wave at the box office shows no signs of slowing down. After the buzz around Hokum and Passenger, audiences have now latched onto Obsession, a supernatural horror thriller that is making some serious noise. Even as weekdays kick in, the film is holding its ground better than most recent releases.
According to early trade reports, Obsession earned approximately Rs 2 crore on its fifth day (Monday). While that’s a slight dip from Sunday’s impressive Rs 3.25 crore, industry experts consider this a healthy hold — a 38.5% drop that’s totally expected on a working day. The film’s opening day stood at Rs 1.75 crore on Thursday, followed by a strong weekend jump to Rs 2.75 crore on Saturday and the Sunday peak. With Monday’s addition, the India net collection has reached around Rs 9.75 crore, while gross stands at roughly Rs 11.68 crore.
Occupancy figures tell the real story. Across 1,601 shows, the film clocked 33.22% overall occupancy, with evening shows hitting 38.11% and night shows peaking at 48.56%. That steady climb through the day points to strong word-of-mouth pulling in crowds after work hours.
How Does Obsession Compare to Chand Mera Dil?
What makes Obsession‘s run even more interesting is how it’s outperforming a major domestic release. Ananya Panday and Lakshya’s Chand Mera Dil, directed by Vivek Soni, managed only Rs 0.90 crore on its second Monday. That’s less than half of what the horror flick earned on its first Monday — a clear sign of where audience interest is leaning right now.
Insiders suggest that Obsession‘s psychological tension and shocking twists are striking a chord with young viewers, who are driving repeat visits. The film is expected to collect between Rs 1.75 crore and Rs 2.25 crore on Day 6, and if it maintains momentum, it could cross the Rs 12 crore net mark in India within the next 24 hours. However, it still needs around Rs 20 crore to break into the top 10 horror films in India, alongside classics like The Conjuring.
What’s the Film About?
Directed by 26-year-old sensation Curry Barker, Obsession follows Bear Bailey (Michael Johnston), a shy music store employee harbouring a crush on his co-worker Nikki Freeman (Inde Navarrette). Unable to express his feelings, he turns to a mystical toy called the One Wish Willow — and that’s where things go terribly wrong. After using the supernatural object to make Nikki fall in love with him, her affection morphs into disturbing, uncontrollable behaviour. Bear is forced to face the horrifying consequences of stripping away her free will.
The film also stars Cooper Tomlinson as Ian, Megan Lawless as Sarah Harper, Andy Richter as Carter, along with Haley Fitzgerald, Darin Toonder, and Anthony Pavone in key roles. With its dark premise and strong performances, Obsession is proving that horror isn’t just a genre — it’s a box office force in its own right.
