Legal Notice Sent to Film Makers
Bollywood megastar Salman Khan has reportedly sent a legal notice to the makers of the upcoming film Kala Hiran, a project inspired by the infamous 1998 blackbuck hunting case. The notice, addressed to casting director Akshay Pandey, claims the film is a gross violation of the actor’s personality rights and has demanded an immediate halt to all promotional activities and the release itself.
According to sources close to the actor, the legal team has objected to what they describe as the unauthorised use of events linked to Salman’s life. The notice argues that the film is ‘defamatory in nature’ and could cause irreparable harm to the star’s reputation. Directed by Bharat S. Shrinate and produced by Amit Jani, Kala Hiran draws from the same case that saw Salman convicted for hunting the protected animal before being granted bail.
Producer Fires Back on Social Media
Amit Jani, the producer, hasn’t taken the legal notice lying down. In a fiery Facebook post, Jani accused Salman of trying to intimidate him. He wrote, in Hindi, that the intent of these notices is to instill fear so that people yield to his influence, adding that he does not easily succumb to intimidation. On X, Jani went a step further, directly accusing the actor of threatening him.
Salman’s lawyer, however, has emphasised that the blackbuck case is still pending before the Rajasthan High Court. The notice argues that releasing a film based on these events could interfere with the administration of justice and prejudice the actor’s right to a fair trial. This is not the first time a film has faced a legal hurdle from a celebrity tied to real-life events, but it marks a rare clash between Salman and an indie filmmaker.
Personality Rights Debate Heats Up Again
The dispute has once again brought the spotlight onto the legal concept of personality rights in India. While filmmakers often borrow from real-life incidents, celebrities are increasingly seeking court protection against what they view as unauthorised exploitation of their life stories. Kala Hiran producer Amit Jani has previously worked on Udaipur Files, which dealt with a controversial murder case, showing his penchant for topical cinema.
As the legal notice gets processed, the industry is watching closely. Will Salman manage to block the film’s release, or will the filmmakers push ahead? One thing is clear — this isn’t just about a movie; it’s about how far a star can go to control his own narrative. Stay tuned to Cinecrazy for more updates on this brewing Bollywood battle.
