What sparked the dispute?

The Federation of Western India Cine Employees (FWICE) had issued a non-cooperation directive against Ranveer Singh on May 25 after Farhan Akhtar and Ritesh Sidhwani filed a complaint with the Indian Film and Television Directors’ Association (IFTDA). The producers alleged that Singh walked out of the upcoming film ‘Don 3’, a reboot of the popular franchise that had been in development for three years. According to reports, over Rs 45 crore had already been spent on pre-production, though shooting had not yet begun.

FWICE’s directive essentially meant that no film body or production house would work with Singh until the matter was resolved. The actor quickly responded by sending a legal notice to the organisation, challenging the action taken against him.

How did the situation de-escalate?

On Wednesday, FWICE president BN Tiwari announced that the non-cooperative directive had been withdrawn with immediate effect. The decision came after intervention from the Indian Motion Picture Producers’ Association (IMPPA), the Producers Guild of India (PGI), and the Cine & TV Artistes’ Association (CINTAA).

“We are taking back our non cooperative directive from immediate effect after a request by IMPAA, the producers’ guild and CINTAA,” Tiwari said. “We have been told that we should all sit together with the producers’ body and take an appropriate decision where neither the producers and directors nor the actor face any issues.”

Tiwari also clarified that no one had won or lost in this matter. “Our legal department will respond to his legal notice,” he added.

What has Ranveer Singh’s camp said?

At the time the dispute erupted, Singh’s spokesperson issued a statement saying the actor continues to hold “deep respect and goodwill” for everyone associated with the film and the industry. The statement noted that Singh had “consciously chosen to maintain silence, believing that professional discussions and personal equations are best handled with dignity, maturity and mutual respect.”

With FWICE backing down, it appears the actor’s strategy of letting his legal team handle the matter has paid off. The next step will likely involve discussions between all parties to ensure no further complications arise for either Singh or the producers. Meanwhile, fans are eagerly waiting for updates on ‘Don 3’, which remains one of the most anticipated Bollywood projects.
