The man behind the moves
Bollywood’s calendar is bursting with big-ticket releases, and behind the scenes, choreographer Vijay Ganguly has been quietly owning the dance floor. The man has been juggling some of the most awaited films in the industry, including Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s ambitious ‘Love & War’. In a recent chat, Ganguly opened up about working with the biggest names in Hindi cinema and gave a rare peek into a sequence that has fans already buzzing.
But Ganguly also had a heartfelt concern to share — the growing trend of reducing choreography to just a few fleeting seconds designed purely for social media reels. He believes the art deserves more respect than a quick scroll-by.
Bhansali: A dream collaborator
Speaking about his experience with the perfectionist filmmaker, Ganguly couldn’t stop gushing. “He’s someone who will give you everything that you need. If I need five days, he will let me take six. So it’s like you get everything with him. And creatively, he is involved in every small little process. So it’s just a dream to work with someone like that,” the choreographer shared.
That kind of creative freedom, Ganguly hinted, is rare in today’s fast-paced industry. But Bhansali, known for his painstaking attention to detail, clearly gives his team the space to breathe and innovate.
The Ranbir-Alia piece that’s pure magic
Here’s the juicy bit — Ganguly revealed he has recently wrapped work on a major sequence featuring real-life couple Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. And no, it’s not a song. “We did a piece with Ranbir and Alia. It’s not a song, but it’s a piece. What we did was magical because what he (Sanjay Leela Bhansali) came up with as an idea, what we did, what Ranbir added to it in the process. I mean, when you see it, you will know,” he teased.
For context, ‘Love & War’ brings together Ranbir, Alia, and Vicky Kaushal for the first time under Bhansali’s direction. The film is rumoured to be a love triangle with Ranbir and Vicky playing officers, while Alia’s character is caught between duty and emotion. The project is especially special for Ranbir, marking his return to Bhansali after nearly two decades — his debut ‘Saawariya’ was also a Bhansali film. With Ganguly promising a ‘magical’ piece, fans can’t wait to see what the trio has cooked up.
