Yeh Shaadi Nahi Chalegi
David Dhawan and Varun Dhawan have teamed up again for Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai, but the result is more yawn than laugh. The film, which also stars Mrunal Thakur, tries to recreate the magic of classic Dhawan comedies but ends up falling flat. Despite Varun’s trademark energy, the humour rarely lands, and the narrative feels rushed.
Storyline: Wedding Photographer Ka Drama
Varun plays Jaswinder ‘Jass’, a passionate wedding photographer whose life takes a chaotic turn after meeting Bani (Mrunal Thakur) during a wedding assignment. A few drinks later, they confess their love and tie the knot in a drunken haze. What follows is a predictable mess of misunderstandings and slapstick that feels straight out of the 90s—but without the charm.
The writing is weak, and the jokes rely too heavily on loud, physical comedy. Even the supporting cast, including Anil Dhawan and Rajpal Yadav, can’t salvage a script that feels like a first draft.
Performances: Varun Tries, But Script Lets Him Down
Varun Dhawan gives his all—dancing, emoting, and pulling faces—but even he can’t save a film that offers him no real material. Mrunal Thakur looks lovely but is wasted in a role that demands little more than standing around. The chemistry between the leads is missing, making their supposed romance feel forced.
David Dhawan’s direction feels outdated. The editing is choppy, and several scenes drag on without purpose. It’s clear the team tried to channel the magic of Judwaa or Hero No. 1, but the execution is just exhausting.
Final Verdict: Skip This Shaadi
Hai Jawani Toh Ishq Hona Hai is a disappointing outing for the Dhawan duo. If you’re craving a laugh riot, rewatch Mujhse Shaadi Karogi or Partner instead. This one is strictly for die-hard Varun fans—and even they might walk out feeling tired. Our advice? Save your time and money.
