Fans across generations keep her work alive

Karisma Kapoor is riding high on the praise for her latest web series Brown, which dropped on ZEE5 earlier this month. During the promotional cycle, the actress took a moment to reflect on the enduring love she receives from fans—both the ones who grew up watching her and the TikTok-generation crowd discovering her today.

Speaking from a place of genuine gratitude, Karisma credited her loyal fan base and the young Gen-Z audience who keep her legacy buzzing. “I think I’m very grateful to the audience and to my loyal fan base, and also I must say to the young Gen-Z’s who kind of know my movies and they dance on my songs,” she said. “So I’m honestly just thankful and grateful.”

The actress noted how younger generations are vibing with everything from her performances and songs to her fashion choices and comedy roles. “Whether it’s the movies, the songs, the fashion, the performances, the comedy, I think generations today also identify with that,” she added.

Not one to sit back and bask in past glory

Despite being one of the biggest stars of the 90s, Karisma revealed she has never watched a single one of her own films from start to finish. “Till today I’ve never watched any film of mine. Maybe some songs and dances today or somebody will show me,” she shared. For her, audience appreciation has always trumped self-congratulation.

“For me as an artist, as an actor, it’s always been that my audience should love me. My audience should love this for me. My directors should want me. They should love me and then I’m happy.”

The actress famously described herself as a mazdur—a worker—who is still learning every day. “I think I’m a mazdur. I always call myself a mazdur. I’m a worker. I’m learning every day,” she said. She also revealed that her sister, Kareena Kapoor Khan, shares the same “never sit back” attitude. “I cannot sit back and be like, ‘Oh, I did this.’ I think that’s the same with my sister. We’ve just been like that. We’re made like that,” she concluded.

Classic hits still ruling playlists and dance floors

Karisma’s iconic songs and films remain deeply embedded in pop culture, with several tracks being remixed and recreated for modern audiences. Hits like ‘Husn Hai Suhana,’ ‘Tujhe Mirchi Lagi To,’ ‘Tan Tana Tan Tan,’ and ‘Oonchi Hai Building’ have all been reimagined in recent years, introducing her magic to a whole new generation.

As the 90s diva continues to shine on OTT platforms, one thing is clear: Karisma Kapoor isn’t just a nostalgia trip—she’s a timeless star whose work is still finding fresh fans, one dance reel at a time.
