Ravi Kishan on his unique role in ‘Maa Behen’
Ravi Kishan was pleasantly surprised when he first heard director Suresh Triveni’s narration for the upcoming film ‘Maa Behen’. The actor admitted that even after a long career, he had never encountered a character quite like Guptaji before. This novelty became his primary motivation to take on the role of a middle-aged man who finds himself attracted to his neighbor Rekha, portrayed by the legendary Madhuri Dixit Nene.
In an exclusive chat, Ravi shared that the film’s small-town North Indian setting is what truly sets it apart. He emphasized that the humor and drama feel authentic, not forced. “You can’t fool me,” he said, referring to how real the world of ‘Maa Behen’ feels. The actor credited the writing and direction for capturing the essence of small-town life without resorting to caricature.
Madhuri Dixit’s professionalism earns high praise
Ravi Kishan didn’t hold back when talking about working with Madhuri Dixit. He described her as calm, punctual, and fully committed on set. “Her discipline is something else,” he remarked. “She knows her lines, she’s there on time, and she creates a peaceful atmosphere. That’s why she’s a legend.”
He added that despite her superstar status, Madhuri never made anyone feel inferior. “She treats everyone with respect. It’s rare to see that kind of humility after so many years in the industry,” Ravi noted. The actor believes that Madhuri’s professionalism is a major reason why the film’s chemistry between their characters feels so natural.
What makes ‘Maa Behen’ different from other comedies
According to Ravi, ‘Maa Behen’ avoids the trap of vulgar or slapstick humor that many small-town comedies fall into. Instead, it relies on situational comedy and relatable characters. “The humor comes from the characters’ innocence and their real-life struggles,” he explained. “It’s not about making fun of small towns; it’s about celebrating them.”
The actor also revealed that the film’s title, which translates to ‘Mother and Sister’, reflects the deep respect for women in Indian culture, even as the plot explores unconventional love. Ravi believes that the film will resonate with audiences across India because it touches on universal emotions while staying rooted in a specific cultural milieu. ‘Maa Behen’ is expected to release later this year, and based on Ravi’s enthusiasm, it might just be the sleeper hit of the season.
