A rare birthday glimpse into the Sussex household
Princess Lilibet turned five on June 4, and Meghan Markle marked the occasion with a tender social media post featuring two new photos of her youngest child. The Duchess of Sussex captioned the post with a simple white heart emoji and the words, ‘Our dream girl. Happy 5th birthday, Lili.’
In one image, a smiling Prince Harry holds Lilibet while Meghan leans in close to them both. The second picture shows the birthday girl in a sunlit green yard, reaching out to touch a flower while wearing a sleeveless white summer dress with a scalloped hem and lace details. As has become their custom for family posts, the comments section was turned off.
Industry sources say the carefully curated post offered another rare window into the lives of the Sussexes’ only daughter, whose full name is Lilibet Diana Mountbatten-Windsor. She was born on June 4, 2021, in Santa Barbara, California, and her name pays tribute to both Harry’s late mother, Princess Diana, and his grandmother Queen Elizabeth II, whose family nickname was Lilibet.
From princess title to personality traits
Lilibet holds a princess title as a grandchild of the UK monarch, a right she gained when King Charles III ascended the throne. Her parents officially began referring to her as Princess Lilibet in March 2023. A spokesperson for the couple explained at the time that the children’s titles had been a birthright since their grandfather became monarch, and the matter had been settled in alignment with Buckingham Palace.
Over the years, both Meghan and Harry have shared small but telling details about their daughter’s personality. Harry has said Lilibet reminds him a lot of his mother, Princess Diana. ‘She’s very Spencer-like. She’s got the same blue eyes,’ he revealed in their documentary series. Meghan added that her daughter has ‘blue, blue, blue eyes,’ while Harry described her hair as ‘sort of like a golden reddish.’
During an appearance on ‘The Drew Barrymore Show’, Meghan shared that the children sometimes surprise her with a British accent. ‘They’ll say zeh-bra, and they have these little moments where it comes out. They have very American accents, but they say words that are just like him, and I think it’s adorable,’ she said. In October 2025, Meghan spoke about a sweet routine she had developed with Lilibet, describing her as ‘a very strong personality’ and ‘incredible.’
Hobbies, interests, and family life in Montecito
Meghan has shared snippets of Lilibet’s daily life at their Montecito home, showing her in the garden, playing outside, cooking in the kitchen, and even working on the family’s apiary in a beekeeper’s outfit. At the Sundance Film Festival in January 2026, where Meghan was promoting her documentary ‘Cookie Queens’, she was asked whether Lilibet might follow in her footsteps as a former Girl Scout. Meghan responded thoughtfully, saying they would continue to explore whatever feels right for both of them.
When Lilibet was just a few weeks old, Harry described her as an easy and contented baby. ‘We’ve been lucky so far; she’s very chilled and seems happy to just sit there while Archie is running around like crazy,’ he said. In April 2022, he told People that Lilibet had just taken her first steps, adding, ‘Proud papa, here.’
As Lilibet turns five, fans can’t help but wonder what the future holds for the little princess who, according to her parents, has her grandmother Diana’s spirit and her mother’s strength. For now, the Sussexes are keeping the celebrations private and close to home.
