Is Raghava Lawrence joining TVK? His new video has fans guessing

After Thalapathy Vijay's CM win, Raghava Lawrence drops a cryptic video asking fans to decide his political future.

Raghava Lawrence has set social media on fire with a new video that has everyone talking about his next move. In the clip posted on X, the actor-dancer gets candid about his political ambitions and leaves the final decision to his fans. The timing couldn’t be more interesting — right after Thalapathy Vijay’s massive win in the Tamil Nadu assembly elections and the vacancy in Trichy East.

The video that started it all

Lawrence starts the video with his signature line: “Do your duty but don’t expect anything in return.” He then opens up about his long-standing desire to serve people through politics. The actor recalls how he approached Rajinikanth back in 2017 when the superstar launched his political journey. Lawrence says he was ready to join Rajini’s movement, but his mother shot it down, calling politics a “drainage-like field.” Rajinikanth told him to wait, and then Rajini’s party dissolved without contesting a single election.

Fast forward to 2026. When Thalapathy Vijay announced TvK (Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam), Lawrence felt the same pull. Again, his mother said no. Even Vijay advised him to wait. But after Vijay’s party swept the April 2026 elections and he became Chief Minister, Lawrence’s mother finally gave her blessing. “I was thrilled,” Lawrence says in the video, before turning to his fans: “If you say ‘No,’ I will not enter politics. If you say ‘Yes,’ I am ready. I’m leaving it in your hands.”

The Trichy East connection

The speculation isn’t random. In the April 23 election, Vijay contested from both Trichy East and Perambur and won both seats. He retained Perambur (closer to the Secretariat) and vacated Trichy East, triggering a by-election. TVK needs a heavyweight candidate for that constituency, and Lawrence fits the bill perfectly. He and Vijay go way back — Lawrence choreographed several of Vijay’s early hits and even appeared in the 2003 film Thirumalai. Plus, Lawrence is a household name across Tamil Nadu, known as much for his philanthropic work (a trust for differently-abled children, a temple for his mother) as for his Kanchana films.

Fans are already connecting the dots: mother’s sudden approval after Vijay’s victory, the open Trichy East seat, and Lawrence’s history with Vijay. The actor hasn’t confirmed anything, but the clues are hard to ignore. In the video, Lawrence also speaks about his vision for leadership, saying “Leaders who honor this process will gain public trust. Those who create divisions will face disappointment.” It sounds like a political manifesto in the making.

What’s next for Lawrence?

TVK has not made any official statement. Party insiders suggest the candidate list for by-elections will be finalized after internal meetings in July. Lawrence himself is still busy with film commitments. But his video has already set the grapevine buzzing. Whether he ends up contesting Trichy East or simply testing the waters, one thing is clear: Raghava Lawrence is ready for the next chapter. And he wants his fans to write it with him.
