A massive platform for India’s storytellers
Canon India has dropped a big announcement for all the aspiring filmmakers out there. The digital imaging giant is launching #IndiaInMotion, an 8-month nationwide creator movement designed to give a major boost to the next generation of visual storytellers. Think of it as a massive open platform for anyone with a camera and a story to tell—from weddings and travel to festivals, wildlife, fashion, and food. The campaign will roll out challenges, film submissions, digital showcases, and community-led activations over the next eight months.
At the heart of the initiative is Canon’s growing video ecosystem, led by the EOS R6V camera and the RF 20-50 F4L IS USM Lens—their first-ever full-frame professional-grade L-series lens. The idea is to make cinematic storytelling more accessible, especially as India’s creator economy explodes with video-first content. Participants will get access to Canon’s imaging ecosystem, industry-led engagements, and the chance to showcase their work on a national stage.
To sweeten the deal, 12 shortlisted creators will receive the EOS R6V kit to produce original films, and the ultimate winner will get the opportunity to bring their passion project to life. Yes, you read that right—this could be your big break.
Shakun Batra brings his cinematic vision
The cherry on top? Acclaimed filmmaker Shakun Batra has been onboarded as the face of #IndiaInMotion. Known for emotionally immersive films like Kapoor & Sons and Gehraiyaan, Batra brings a contemporary storytelling sensibility that perfectly aligns with the campaign’s forward-looking creative vision. Interestingly, Batra has also recently ventured into AI-led creative storytelling with his new startup, Jouska AI, making him a fitting ambassador for a movement that blends technology with raw human emotion.
Batra will actively participate in creator conversations and mentorship engagements, and will collaborate with Canon India on initiatives aimed at inspiring emerging filmmakers. Speaking about his association, the director said: “The language of filmmaking is changing rapidly, especially with a generation that has grown up documenting life constantly, through travel, relationships, culture and everyday moments. With #IndiaInMotion, Canon is creating a space where creators can explore that instinct more seriously, with access to tools and a larger ecosystem that supports their creative journey.” That’s the kind of mentorship every aspiring filmmaker dreams of.
A sonic identity and six thematic worlds
Adding a distinct creative flavour to the movement, Canon India has collaborated with music duo Maati Baani to launch an original soundtrack for #IndiaInMotion. The track will serve as the campaign’s sonic identity, featuring across the launch film, creator-led content, and user-generated entries. It’s a smart move—music that instantly connects you to the vibe of the movement.
The campaign is built around six thematic ‘Motion Worlds’: Weddings (Emotions in Motion), Travel (Geography in Motion), Festivals (Culture in Motion), Wildlife (Nature in Motion), Fashion (Expression in Motion), and Food (Craft in Motion). From the lesser-known festivals of the Northeast to the rarely-travelled passes of the Himalayas, from cinematic weddings to the energy of everyday streets, #IndiaInMotion celebrates stories that capture India in its truest, most dynamic form. Canon India’s Mr. Vishesh Magoo, Assistant Director and Head of Imaging Communication Business Centre, summed it up: “India is witnessing a strong shift towards cinematic and video-first storytelling… With #IndiaInMotion, we aim to create a movement that nurtures emerging talent, encourages creative expression, and makes cinematic storytelling more accessible across India.” For all the creators out there waiting for their moment, this might just be the launchpad you need.
