Producer Ravi Bhagchandka, who brought us the cricket documentary Sachin: A Billion Dreams nearly a decade ago, is back with a packed slate under his banner 200 NotOut Productions. And the biggest news? A biopic on cricket legend Yuvraj Singh is officially in the works!
Yuvraj Singh biopic moving ahead at pace
According to industry sources, the screenplay for the Yuvraj Singh biopic is being written non-stop. Bhagchandka himself revealed that they are deep in the trenches and expect to have a locked draft ready within the next couple of months. A director and writer have already been signed on, with a formal announcement expected soon.
Calling it a massive responsibility, the producer said Yuvraj’s life is an incredible journey of massive professional highs and personal challenges, making it proper cinematic material. The biopic will cover both his cricketing glory and his battle with cancer, promising an emotional and inspiring story.
Bombay High and the Funeral remake
But that’s not all. Bhagchandka is also collaborating with acclaimed filmmaker Mahesh Narayanan (Malik) on a rescue drama titled Bombay High. The producer revealed that after watching Malik, he was blown away by Narayanan’s vision and approached him with the core rescue concept. Narayanan was immediately excited to collaborate, and the story has been developed. Now that Narayanan’s latest feature Patriot has released, they are diving back into the screenplay. The plan is to lock the script and take it to actors within the next four to five months, depending on talent availability.
Additionally, Bhagchandka is working on a Hindi remake of the Marathi film Funeral, which he describes as a brilliant dark comedy-drama about celebrating death. It’s a beautifully unique concept, and the team is currently interviewing directors to adapt it. The goal is to scale that story up and introduce its philosophy to a much wider audience.
Budget discipline in today’s film industry
Speaking about the broader state of the industry, Bhagchandka didn’t hold back. He stressed that budgeting discipline has become absolutely essential. According to him, any financial misstep right now can be catastrophic because the entire ecosystem is on edge. Satellite television rights are nearly non-existent now, and digital OTT platforms are aggressively squeezing their budgets. Even if you are mounting a project with a recognised star, budgets are incredibly tight.
Bhagchandka says you have to scrutinise production budgets with a microscopic lens and scan the line items repeatedly to make the numbers viable before turning on a camera. With a diverse slate in development, his focus remains on backing strong stories while adapting to the realities of a rapidly changing film industry.
We’ll be keeping a close eye on these projects—especially that Yuvraj Singh biopic. Ab dekhte hain kaun si star cast aati hai!
