Steady Third Weekend for Karuppu
Suriya’s Karuppu is showing no signs of slowing down even in its third week at the box office. The fantasy action film pulled in Rs 5.90 crore net on Day 17 (third Sunday), marking a solid 14.6% jump from the previous day’s Rs 5.15 crore. Industry trackers suggest the film’s momentum remains strong, especially in Tamil Nadu, which contributed the lion’s share of Rs 5.35 crore on Sunday.
The film’s domestic net collection now stands at Rs 182.45 crore, while the India gross has climbed to Rs 210.99 crore. With 3,327 shows across the country, the Tamil version dominated with 43.53% overall occupancy, peaking at 56.62% during evening shows. The Telugu version also held its own with 19% occupancy from 974 screenings.
Worldwide Numbers and Key Markets
On the international front, Karuppu added Rs 1.25 crore on Day 17, taking its overseas total to Rs 78.25 crore. Combined with domestic earnings, the film’s worldwide gross has reached Rs 289.24 crore, inching closer to the coveted Rs 300 crore milestone. Tamil Nadu remains the biggest contributor, followed by Andhra Pradesh and Telangana (Rs 80 lakhs), Karnataka (Rs 40 lakhs), and Kerala (Rs 18 lakhs).
The film’s third-week performance is particularly impressive given the usual drop-off after the first two weeks. Insiders say positive word-of-mouth and repeat viewership are driving the sustained collections, especially in urban centers.
OTT Release on the Horizon?
Reports suggest that Netflix has snapped up the digital rights for Karuppu, though no official confirmation has come from the makers yet. According to industry buzz, the film is expected to hit the streaming platform roughly four weeks after its theatrical release. Fans can expect an announcement soon, as the film continues its strong run in cinemas.
