The impact of negative comments on her confidence
Huma Qureshi is getting real about the toll online trolling took on her mental health. In a candid chat on the latest episode of Neha Dhupia and Angad Bedi’s chat show Double Date, Huma opened up about how hurtful comments on her appearance early in her career made her withdraw from the world.
The actor, who made her debut with Gangs of Wasseypur in 2012, revealed that after her second film, she started reading a lot of negativity about her looks. “It really affected me, and I became very withdrawn for a while,” she shared. “When you are constantly being judged, it starts impacting your confidence.”
Those words hit hard, especially for someone who had just stepped into the limelight. Huma admitted that the constant scrutiny made her question herself, leaving her feeling insecure and low. It’s a struggle many in the public eye face, but hearing it from a star who has since become a powerhouse performer makes it all the more relatable.
Her journey towards self-acceptance
But this story doesn’t end there. Over time, Huma decided to take control of her narrative. She realised she had to block out the noise and focus on herself. “I started meditating, writing about my feelings, journaling, and even taking therapy,” she said. “Slowly, I became more secure about myself and the way I looked.”
Today, the actor says she can laugh at jokes—even crack them about herself—and take things in a much more positive way. “I feel far more confident and comfortable in my own skin now,” she added. It’s a glow-up that goes beyond the screen, yaar. From being hurt by trolls to owning her space, Huma’s journey is proof that self-love is a process.
The conversation also touched on how she learned to cut out the noise. Huma emphasised that therapy and journaling played a huge role in helping her rebuild her confidence. She now approaches criticism with a healthier mindset, using humour as a shield. “I can even crack jokes about myself now,” she said with a laugh.
From Gangs of Wasseypur to Toxic: A career on the rise
Huma’s career has been a mix of critical acclaim and commercial hits. After her debut, she impressed in Dedh Ishqiya, Badlapur, Jolly LLB 2, and also shone in offbeat films like Ek Thi Daayan and Monica O My Darling. She made her Hollywood debut in Zack Snyder’s Army of the Dead in 2021.
The same year, she took on the role of Rani Bharti in the political drama Maharani, which ran for three seasons and earned her widespread praise. She followed that up with a turn as the antagonist in Delhi Crime season 3. Up next, Huma will be seen in Geetu Mohandas’ highly anticipated film Toxic, starring Yash in the lead alongside Kiara Advani, Nayanthara, Rukmini Vasanth, and Tara Sutaria. The film is slated for release later this year.
Huma’s openness about her struggles is a reminder that even the most successful stars face insecurities. But as she proves, with time and effort, you can come out stronger—and maybe even laugh at the haters.
