Imtiaz Ali and Ranbir Kapoor share a creative bond that gave us iconic films like ‘Rockstar’ and ‘Tamasha’. Now, the director is thrilled about Ranbir stepping into the shoes of Lord Rama in Nitesh Tiwari’s upcoming mythological epic ‘Ramayana’. Speaking to a media outlet, Imtiaz expressed his excitement, noting that Ranbir has the ability to bring authenticity and depth to the character, making Rama feel personal and intimate rather than distant.

Imtiaz highlighted what this role could mean for Ranbir’s artistic journey, saying, “It’ll be hugely beneficial for Ranbir to have played Rama because he is the kind of actor that he imbibes from the character. He will take from Rama and that will be so enriching for him.” The director believes that playing such a legendary figure will deeply impact Ranbir as an artist.

Ramayana’s Star-Studded Cast and Release

‘Ramayana: Part 1’ is slated for a worldwide theatrical release on Diwali 2026. The film has already generated global buzz after a special preview at CinemaCon this year. Alongside Ranbir, the movie boasts an impressive ensemble including Sai Pallavi, Yash, Sunny Deol, Kajal Aggarwal, Rakul Preet Singh, Vivek Oberoi, Ravi Dubey, Kunal Kapoor, Adinath Kothare, and Arun Govil, with Lara Dutta also part of the lineup. The legendary Amitabh Bachchan takes on the role of Jatayu and lends his iconic voice as the film’s narrator.

Imtiaz Ali and Diljit Dosanjh Reunite for ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’

Following the success of ‘Amar Singh Chamkila’, Imtiaz is joining forces with Diljit Dosanjh for his upcoming project ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’. The Hindi film, penned and helmed by Imtiaz, weaves a romantic tale set against the backdrop of the Partition, featuring Vedang Raina and Sharvari in lead roles. Naseeruddin Shah portrays the older avatar of Vedang’s character, while Diljit steps into the shoes of his grandson. Imtiaz has brought back his trusted collaborators AR Rahman and Irshad Kamil for the film’s music and lyrics. ‘Main Vaapas Aaunga’ is headed for a theatrical release on June 12.
