A horror hit that keeps growing
Obsession is doing what most films dream of — climbing up instead of down. The horror flick raked in approximately Rs 2.30 crore on Monday, which is a solid 40 to 45 per cent jump from its opening day numbers. Industry insiders are calling this an unusual but highly encouraging sign, considering most movies see a decline after their first day.
After four days in theatres, the film has accumulated around Rs 11.50 crore in India, roughly equivalent to USD 1.20 million. Based on current trends, trade analysts predict it could cross Rs 18 crore in its first week itself. The discount ticket pricing on Tuesday is expected to give it another boost, with advance bookings already looking stronger than Monday’s.
A low-budget miracle in the making
What makes Obsession’s run even more jaw-dropping is its reported production cost of just USD 750K. Compared to its worldwide earnings, which have already crossed USD 200 million in North America alone after three weeks, the film has generated returns far beyond anyone’s expectations. The movie opened with a stunning USD 17 million in its first weekend in the US and Canada.
Earlier projections suggested a lifetime collection of around Rs 30 crore would be a good result for the film. But now, insiders say it could reach close to that figure by the end of its second weekend itself. If that happens, the film may end up collecting significantly more than initial estimates.
Hollywood’s golden year in India
Obsession’s success adds to what is shaping up to be a stellar year for Hollywood releases in the Indian market. Several international films have performed well at the Indian box office in 2026, and observers believe the momentum could continue. Major upcoming titles like Avengers: Doomsday, The Odyssey, and Spider-Man: Brand New Day are still awaited — and if they perform strongly, 2026 could become one of the most successful years ever for Hollywood in India.
For now, Obsession remains one of the year’s biggest box office surprises, proving that a clever horror film with no star power can still pull huge crowds both here and abroad.
