From Climate Anxiety To Climate Warrior: Bhumi’s Journey
Bhumi Pednekar has always been vocal about her love for the planet, and recently she opened up like never before. During a panel discussion, the actor revealed that her environmental awakening started way back in childhood. “Since childhood, I have had a realisation to work towards a better climate. In schools, we’ve all learned about climate change, and we all know it is a reality and not a scientific fiction novel,” she shared.
But it wasn’t always easy. Pednekar admitted that the weight of the climate crisis once took a serious toll on her mental health. “I would suffer from climate anxiety and would not be able to sleep at night. Now we speak frankly about mental health, but back then, I hadn’t realised I was suffering from something called climate anxiety,” she revealed. It’s a candid confession that many young Indians battling eco-anxiety will instantly relate to.
Once she entered Bollywood, Bhumi didn’t just leave her green concerns behind. Instead, she built a tribe of like-minded people. “After I became an actor, I built my own community who added weight to my beliefs and values. I started as a Climate Warrior and worked really hard on it – it is a very powerful platform,” she said. That community has become her backbone in spreading the green message.
Small Steps, Big Impact: Bhumi’s Green Mantra
For Bhumi, sustainability isn’t just about big rallies or celebrity endorsements. It’s about the little things we do every day. “Even small steps matter, one could plant saplings at every happy occasion – birthdays, weddings, festivals, etc. There could be no bigger service than this,” she emphasised. Imagine a wedding where guests get saplings instead of return gifts – that’s the energy Bhumi is bringing.
The actor also made it clear that her eco-consciousness isn’t limited to her personal life. “My efforts have always been to bring a climate-positive narrative even in the films that I do,” she stated. Whether it’s choosing projects that talk about nature or pushing for green practices on set, Bhumi is walking the talk.
Reel Life Meets Real Change: EVs & Sustainable Sets
Perhaps the most exciting part of her conversation was about using cinema’s massive reach to normalise green choices. Bhumi pointed out that Bollywood heroes are idols for millions, so why not use that influence for good? “When it comes to films, if we can show that an actor is driving a sports car, why can’t we show that the actor can also drive an EV? Heroes and heroines are idolised in our country. It is through them that we can spread more awareness about sustainability, whether fashion, technology or anything else,” she argued. Fair point, right? Imagine Hrithik Roshan zooming around in a Tesla in his next blockbuster – that could change minds faster than any public service ad.
And Bhumi isn’t just talking about what others should do. She is keen on reforming the industry from within. “As actors and filmmakers, what we can work on is how to make our sets more sustainable, how to refuse the use of plastic on sets, how can we recycle more,” she concluded. From climate anxiety to climate action, Bhumi Pednekar is showing that Bollywood can be a force for nature too. Ab baaki filmon mein bhi green wave aani chahiye, na?
