Bhamla Foundation Launches #DriveHerFuture Initiative
Mumbai’s Bhamla Foundation, led by Asif Bhamla and Saher Bhamla, has rolled out a new social project called #DriveHerFuture. The initiative, launched on June 1 at Jamnabai Narsee School, aims to put 1,000 women behind the wheel of pink e-rickshaws.
The programme is designed to create livelihood opportunities and boost financial independence for women, while promoting eco-friendly transport. Organisers say the project is being run in collaboration with the Brihanmumbai Municipal Corporation (BMC).
The pink e-rickshaws will allow women to earn a living through self-employment, giving them greater mobility and economic stability. Reports suggest the focus is on practical solutions that directly impact lives.
Bhumi Pednekar and Amruta Fadnavis Join Forces
Climate advocate and actor Bhumi Pednekar has teamed up with singer, social activist and banker Amruta Fadnavis to support the campaign. Both have a strong track record of backing women’s empowerment and sustainability causes.
Bhumi, known for her environmental advocacy off-screen, has previously been vocal about similar issues. Her participation, alongside Amruta, has given the initiative wider visibility. The Bhamla Foundation hopes this star power will encourage more women to come forward and take up the driving opportunity.
A Legacy of Community Work
The Bhamla Foundation isn’t new to social good. Among its past initiatives is the Supergirls of Tomorrow scholarship, which supports girls from BMC schools with education. The foundation has also organised numerous beach clean-ups across Mumbai and participated in tree-plantation drives like #EkPedMaaKeNaam and #NowForClimate.
By merging women’s empowerment with sustainable mobility, #DriveHerFuture adds another chapter to that legacy. The focus remains on enabling women to access new employment avenues while keeping the environment in mind. As the programme rolls out, all eyes will be on how many women grab this pink opportunity.
