The Story At The Centre Of The Debate

Bobby Deol is teaming up with Anurag Kashyap for a film that has already sparked intense discussion—even before its release. The movie reportedly revolves around an actor who finds himself entangled in serious sexual assault allegations, exploring how such accusations impact his life. Naturally, the sensitive subject has drawn both curiosity and criticism. Producer Nikhil Dwivedi, who is backing the project, recently opened up about the film’s intentions during a candid conversation, addressing the growing debate head-on.

Dwivedi admitted that the subject matter hit close to home. He shared, “The subject was, and the people who got involved eventually became close to my heart.” The film, which has been kept under wraps so far, is clearly aiming to stir conversation about justice, fairness, and the legal process. But with such a loaded premise, some have questioned whether the narrative could end up villainising women while sympathising with the accused.

Pro-justice, Not Anti-women: Dwivedi Clarifies

When asked directly if the film could be interpreted as being against women, Dwivedi was quick to set the record straight. He stressed that the movie is not intended to take sides against any gender. Instead, he framed it as a story about due process. “Our film is not against women. Whatever is happening with Twisha, we have been observing too. It’s unfortunate. It needs to be investigated. If there is a crime involved there, people need to be punished. This is not an anti-women film, it’s a pro-justice film,” he said, referencing the Twisha Sharma death case that has been making headlines.

The producer went on to emphasise that supporting justice does not mean disbelieving survivors. “We have to understand that nobody is saying, please don’t believe women when they have been wronged,” he added. His comments suggest the filmmakers are walking a tightrope—trying to explore a delicate topic without appearing dismissive of genuine allegations. The aim, according to Dwivedi, is to start a broader conversation about how allegations should be handled through proper legal channels rather than in the court of public opinion.

Justice System And Due Process

At the heart of the film’s message is a call to trust the legal system. Dwivedi elaborated, “But you have to believe in justice as well. We want to believe in justice more than we want to believe a particular gender… that is the hallmark of our Constitution, our law. This is where the principle of our democracy stands. Justice needs to prevail.” This is clearly the philosophical backbone of the project—a reminder that every case deserves a fair investigation and that the law should be the ultimate arbiter.

While details about the cast and release date remain scarce, the controversy surrounding the film’s theme is likely to keep it in the spotlight. Bobby Deol, who has been on a career resurgence with roles in ‘Animal’ and ‘Apne 2’, will be stepping into uncharted territory with this one. Anurag Kashyap, known for his gritty and unflinching storytelling, is expected to deliver another hard-hitting narrative. For now, the makers are standing firm: this is a story about justice, not about picking sides. As conversations swirl, one thing is clear—this film isn’t going to be an easy watch, but it might just spark the debate it aims to ignite.
