Remember that viral video of Vicky Kaushal at a wedding, cracking jokes about married life and getting roasted online? Months later, the actor has finally broken his silence on the whole thing.

The Wedding Joke That Had Everyone Talking

Earlier this year, a clip from Vicky’s appearance at a friend’s wedding went viral. The actor was on stage with the bride and groom, and in typical Vicky style, he started with a Uri reference. “Sir, mujhe aap se ek hi sawal poochna hai. How’s the josh?” he asked the groom. The crowd went wild.

Encouraged by the response, Vicky took it a step further. He turned to the audience and said, “Dekha? Humesha maine yeh dekha hai bachelors ka josh humesha high rehta hai. Hum shaadhishuda waalo ke toh thode se josh (makes a hand gesture like a crashing plane) saal bhar saal…” The joke continued as he reassured the groom, “4 din mein josh kum nahi hota.”

But the internet wasn’t too amused. Many called out the “wife jokes” as outdated, with some even comparing the reaction to how it would have been if Ranbir Kapoor had said the same thing. One comment read: “If Ranbir had said this, there would have been numerous reels, podcasts, posts on X, Reddit and Instagram telling us all how he is the worst husband ever.”

Vicky Opens Up: ‘No Need to Be Perfect’

Now, in a candid chat with The Nod Magazine, Vicky has addressed the backlash head-on. “There is no way that just because you’re a public figure, you need to be perfect,” he said. “Sometimes we do deserve the brickbats, and maybe the learning there for me is that, as much as people are giving me love, it also comes with a certain sense of responsibility.”

The actor went on to talk about fame and public scrutiny. “No actor has gotten fame and not gotten the flip side of it. I made the conscious choice that I wanted to be here, and the Universe is reciprocating. Now it’s on me how I handle [the fame]. And if the criticism is constructive, you can learn from it.”

It’s a mature take from someone who’s been in the spotlight for over a decade. And considering the man just became a father last year (he and Katrina Kaif welcomed a baby boy in November 2025), maybe the whole “husband” and “father” roles are giving him a new perspective.

What’s Next for Vicky?

On the work front, Vicky was last seen in the blockbuster Chhaava. Next up is Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s much-awaited Love & War, where he’ll share screen space with Ranbir Kapoor and Alia Bhatt. With that kind of ensemble, the josh is definitely high — and this time, no one’s complaining.
