Ram Charan’s Big Return After RRR
Peddi, the most anticipated film of the season, has finally hit the screens today (June 3) with grand premieres across multiple cities. Ram Charan steps back into the spotlight after his blockbuster RRR, this time playing a fiery rustic wrestler named Peddi Pehelwan. The film, directed by Babu Sana Buchi, is set in the 1980s and revolves around village pride, sports, and a love story.
Janhvi Kapoor plays Achiyyamma, while the supporting cast includes heavyweights like Shiv Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, Divyendu Sharma, and Boman Irani. A.R. Rahman’s music has already set the buzz on fire, with songs and background score being a major talking point among fans. The film promises high-octane action and emotional drama, typical of a mass entertainer.
Trade sources say the film has already recovered a huge chunk of its investment even before opening day. Theatrical rights in the Telugu states were reportedly sold for a whopping Rs 165 crore, and the film needs around Rs 265 crore gross from those regions alone to break even. Overseas rights have been valued at Rs 40 crore, with a breakeven target of nearly Rs 85 crore.
Pan-India Release and Box Office Expectations
Peddi isn’t just a Telugu film – it’s arriving as a proper pan-India release in five languages: Telugu, Hindi, Tamil, Kannada, and Malayalam. Industry insiders estimate that the film needs around Rs 140 crore gross from non-Telugu territories to hit its overall target. Yes, the magic number is a worldwide gross of Rs 500 crore – a milestone that only a handful of Telugu films have ever crossed.
Such massive expectations come with massive pressure. But considering the pre-release business and the star power of Ram Charan, exhibitors are confident. The film’s advance booking numbers are also said to be strong, especially in the Telugu-speaking regions. If Peddi manages to deliver, it could easily become one of the biggest blockbusters of Ram Charan’s career after RRR.
With a runtime of around 2 hours 45 minutes, the film packs in enough masala to keep the audience hooked. Early reviews from premiere shows are starting to trickle in, and the word on the street is positive, with special praise for Ram Charan’s intense performance and the interval block scene.
OTT Rights Locked with Netflix
While the theatrical release is the main event right now, fans are also curious about when they can catch Peddi on streaming. Industry sources confirm that Netflix has bagged the digital rights, though no official streaming date has been announced yet. Going by current trends, the film is expected to land on the platform around 6 to 10 weeks after its theatrical release.
That means we’ll have to wait a bit before we can re-watch the action on our phone screens. But for now, all eyes are on the box office. Will Peddi become the next Rs 500 crore club member? Only time will tell. But one thing is sure – Ram Charan is back, and he means business.
