Starring Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna, the film is set for a June 19 release. But before that, here’s a peek into the big bucks behind the big screen entertainer.
A Whopping Rs 150 Crore Landing Cost
Sources close to the production tell Cinecrazy that the total landing cost of Cocktail 2 has crossed the Rs 150 crore mark. The production alone is estimated at Rs 95 crore, with the makers spending big on lavish sets, international locations and high-end styling.
On top of that, the print and publicity budget adds another Rs 20 crore. That brings the final price tag to a staggering Rs 150 crore — a figure rarely seen for a rom-com in Bollywood.
Shahid, Kriti and Rashmika Command Rs 35 Crore in Fees
Of that massive budget, a combined Rs 35 crore has been allocated as fees for the three lead actors. While the exact individual splits are under wraps, it’s clear that the star power of Shahid Kapoor, Kriti Sanon and Rashmika Mandanna comes at a premium.
Directed by Homi Adjania, the film was shot over 70 days across multiple European locations. The makers wanted to change the syntax of romantic comedies, and the budget reflects that ambition.
50 Per Cent Already Recovered Through Pre-Sales
But here’s the smart part — Maddock Films’ strong brand equity has already helped recover about half the budget through non-theatrical deals. Industry insiders reveal that pre-sales of satellite, digital and music rights have covered roughly Rs 75 crore, making the theatrical run a much safer bet.
With a release date locked for June 19, Cocktail 2 is shaping up to be the biggest rom-com event of the year. If the scale matches the numbers, audiences are in for a treat.
