It’s a sad day for Malayalam cinema. National Award-winning actor Salim Kumar has passed away at the age of 56 while undergoing treatment for pneumonia. The news has left the film fraternity in shock, with tributes pouring in from all corners.

Salim Kumar Breathes His Last

According to family sources, Kumar died around 10.43 PM on Saturday at a private hospital in Kochi. He had been admitted earlier in the day after developing sudden health complications and was placed on ventilator support. The actor, who had undergone a liver transplant a few years ago, could not recover from the pneumonia that had set in. His family confirmed that he was undergoing treatment for the lung infection when his condition worsened.

The news spread like wildfire across the industry, with many rushing to the hospital to pay their last respects. Several prominent figures from the Malayalam film industry were seen outside the facility, including actor Dileep, MLA and actor Ramesh Pisharody, and filmmaker Nadirsha.

Mammootty and CM Lead Tributes

Mega star Mammootty took to social media to remember Kumar’s immense contribution to cinema. The legendary actor shared a heartfelt message, acknowledging the void left by his passing. Kerala Chief Minister V D Satheesan also paid his respects, hailing Kumar’s versatility and dedication to the craft. The CM’s office issued a statement praising the actor’s journey from theatre to the big screen, noting how he became a household name across the state.
