Varun Dhawan on Why He Dropped the Façade Early On

In a candid chat, Varun Dhawan got real about the emotional toll of stardom. The actor admitted that despite the glitz and glamour, life under the spotlight can be incredibly isolating. “Actors’ lives are very lonely. Ninety percent of actors are very lonely,” he shared, speaking from personal experience.

But instead of building a polished, untouchable image, Varun chose a different path. From his very first film, ‘Student of the Year’ in 2012, he made a conscious decision to just be himself. “Luckily, from the beginning, I’ve dropped the façade. What Varun is there, Varun is here also,” he explained. The actor stressed that pretending would be disastrous for his mental health. “I try not to do that. My mental health will go for a toss. I can’t pretend because somewhere, it (the bubble) would burst.”

Varun also looked back at his earlier, more unfiltered days in the industry. “If you see my earlier interviews, I was even moohfat and aur bhi bakwas karta tha main. Now, people are getting more conscious because of social media,” he said, adding with a shrug, “But what’s the most that can happen? They’ll cancel you.”

That’s when the conversation turned to Salman Khan. The superstar has been making waves with his quirky, late-night Instagram posts and hilariously unexpected captions. Varun couldn’t help but laugh when Salman’s name came up. “When I see Salman bhai’s posts at night, he’s going into another zone only,” he said, clearly amused. He wrapped up his thought with a simple but powerful message: “You’ve got to be yourself, whether that’s good or bad, but at least you’ll be yourself. Otherwise you won’t even realise what you’ve become.”

Varun Dhawan and Salman Khan’s Long-Standing Bond

Varun and Salman’s connection goes way back, rooted in Salman’s close association with Varun’s father, veteran filmmaker David Dhawan. The duo delivered several hits together, including the 1997 comedy ‘Judwaa’ and the 2007 blockbuster ‘Partner’. That bond carried forward to the next generation when Varun headlined the 2017 reboot ‘Judwaa 2’, a film that paid tribute to the original, with Salman himself making a special appearance.

With his honest take on fame and his admiration for Salman’s unfiltered vibe, Varun once again proves why he’s one of Bollywood’s most relatable stars. No façades, no filters—just pure, unadulterated realness.
