Weekend recovery drives collections

Mohanlal’s Drishyam 3 is making a solid comeback at the box office after a mid-week slump. The third weekend brought fresh momentum, with the film earning Rs 1.70 crore net in India on day 18, marking a 30.8% jump from the previous day’s Rs 1.30 crore. Industry sources suggest the film’s total India net collections now stand at approximately Rs 106.43 crore.

The India gross has reached around Rs 123.47 crore, while overseas earnings added another Rs 15 lakh on day 18, bringing the international total to roughly Rs 111.50 crore. Combining domestic and global figures, the worldwide gross has climbed to an impressive Rs 234.97 crore.

Kerala remains the biggest market

Kerala continues to be the film’s strongest territory, contributing around Rs 1.75 crore gross on day 18 alone. The film registered an overall occupancy of 47.13%, with evening shows seeing the highest turnout at 57.80%. Afternoon shows also held steady, indicating sustained interest among audiences.

The opening week saw Drishyam 3 collect Rs 81.95 crore, while the second week added another Rs 20.68 crore despite expected drops. Collections slowed during week three but bounced back over the weekend, proving the film’s lasting appeal.

A shift from suspense to emotional depth

Directed by Jeethu Joseph, Drishyam 3 takes a different approach from its predecessors. Instead of focusing purely on suspense and investigation, the film explores the emotional and psychological toll on Georgekutty. Insiders reveal that Joseph wanted to examine guilt, paranoia, and psychological exhaustion more deeply this time around.

The narrative reportedly highlights how violence silently lingers within relationships, memory, and everyday life. Georgekutty’s greatest punishment isn’t prison but the inability to live without fear. At the same time, the film also critiques how cinema and society romanticize antiheroes, presenting Georgekutty not as a criminal but as a common man who transforms into a superhero through intelligence and survival instinct, which some find socially problematic.
