Bollywood superstar Akshay Kumar is one of the rare celebrities who uses his stardom for a cause. But here’s the twist — he absolutely hates talking about it.
While appearing on ‘Aap Ki Adaalat’ last year, the ‘Bhoot Bangla’ actor opened up about his approach to giving back to the community and why he stays quiet about his charitable contributions, despite donating massive sums to causes like cancer relief, education, and flood aid.
‘Main kaise bolun’ — Akshay on staying silent about seva
Host Rajat Sharma pointed out that in the last seven years, Akshay has donated over ₹76 crores for various social causes. He questioned why the actor never talks about his generosity while freely discussing his earnings.
Akshay’s response was refreshingly humble. “Main kaise bolun? Kitna bewakoof sa lagunga agar main yeh kahoon ki are maine itne paise diye hai. Main yah kar raha hoon main woh kar raha hun. Arey yah mujhe mauka mila seva karne ka mai seva kar raha hun. Yeh mera saubhagya hai jo mujhe yah mila hai kaam karne ka,” he said, explaining that he considers it a privilege, not something to boast about.
The actor’s stance is clear — he doesn’t want to be seen as someone who gives just for applause. For him, service is personal, not a PR move.
On being called money-minded: ‘Main loot ke nahi kamaya’
The actor also addressed the common label of being ‘money-minded.’ Akshay didn’t shy away from the criticism but turned it around with facts. “Agar paisa kamaya hai to loot ke nahin kamaya. Maine kaam karke kamaya hai. 8 saal se main sabse jyada tax dene wala celebrity hun. To kya yeh mani-minded hone ka saboot hai? Paisa jindagi ka jaruri hissa hai, practical hona padta hai,” he said.
Translation: If I’ve earned money, it’s through hard work, not robbery. I’ve been the highest-tax-paying celebrity for eight years — does that make me money-minded? Money is a necessary part of life.
It’s a rare moment of vulnerability from an actor who usually keeps his personal views under wraps. Fans are now seeing a different side of the Khiladi Kumar — one that values practicality without ego.
Upcoming projects: Welcome to the Jungle and Housefull 5
On the professional front, Akshay isn’t slowing down. He was last seen in the horror-comedy ‘Bhoot Bangla’ and has two major franchise films lined up. First up is ‘Welcome to the Jungle,’ hitting theatres later this month. Then there’s ‘Housefull 5,’ currently in production.
With such a packed schedule, it’s clear that Akshay Kumar continues to balance blockbuster entertainment with genuine service — even if he refuses to talk about the latter.
