Bollywood and South Indian cinema’s beloved actor-filmmaker Raghava Lawrence has dropped a bombshell—he’s entering politics. The announcement came early Friday morning via a video message on his X handle, where he opened up about his unexpected decision.
In the video, Lawrence admitted that politics was never on his mind. ‘I never imagined entering politics. I never had any intention of earning money or seeking a seat,’ he said. His only goal, he explained, was to support someone he believed in and work together for society on a larger scale.
But circumstances have pushed him to reconsider. ‘Today, circumstances have brought me to a point where I need to enter politics,’ he revealed, without naming the person he initially wanted to back.
Fans decide his fate
In a rather democratic move, Lawrence has asked his followers to decide his political future. He posted a video at 10 am, urging fans to share their thoughts in the comments. ‘Do your duty sincerely, without expecting anything in return. After watching this video, please share your advice and guidance in the comments,’ he said.
He laid out two options: ‘If you say “No,” I will not enter politics and will continue my selfless service to society. But if you say “Yes,” I am ready to enter politics. I will reveal when and with whom I intend to start this journey with all your blessings.’
Lawrence hasn’t yet revealed his party affiliation or whether he will contest from a specific seat, leaving fans guessing.
The Vijay connection
Interestingly, Lawrence’s political move comes amid reports that he might contest from the Trichy East Assembly seat. The seat became vacant after Tamil Nadu Chief Minister Vijay, a close friend of Lawrence, decided to give it up. Vijay had contested from both Trichy East and Perambur in the recent elections, winning both, but chose to retain Perambur.
Industry insiders suggest that Lawrence’s entry could be linked to supporting Vijay’s political vision. However, the actor has not confirmed any party details or seat plans. For now, the ball is in the fans’ court—and Lawrence is waiting for their verdict.
