Dr Gargi takes centre stage in new season

The recently dropped trailer of Gram Chikitsalay Season 2 has fans buzzing about one thing — Akansha Ranjan Kapoor’s Dr Gargi is getting a whole lot more screen time. The Prime Video series, which first premiered in 2023, is set to return with deeper character arcs and more intense drama from the fictional village of Bhathkandi in rural Jharkhand.

In Season 1, Dr Gargi was a supporting character — a local doctor who knew the ground realities of working in a neglected healthcare system. She offered quiet wisdom and perspective to Dr Prabhat (Amol Parashar) as he struggled to bring change to the village. But the new trailer suggests she’s no longer just a side player. The makers seem to have placed her right at the heart of the action, with her own personal and professional challenges taking centre stage.

Insiders say the expanded role came about because of how audiences connected with the character. “The response to Dr Gargi in Season 1 was organic and real,” a source close to the production reveals. “Viewers appreciated her honesty and groundedness. That gave the team the confidence to explore her world more deeply.”

Akansha on playing a more layered character

Akansha herself is thrilled about the evolution. Speaking about the journey, she shared, “To me, the most validating part of this journey has been how the makers responded to the audience’s connection with Dr Gargi. Season one allowed her to exist with honesty — she was written to be real. The fact that viewers embraced that gave the creators the confidence to explore her world more in season two.”

She added that the new season brings tougher choices for her character. “Gargi now faces tougher choices, greater responsibility and the cost of staying committed in a system that tests you daily. I feel incredibly supported being part of a show where the platform values nuance and where the makers trust actors to lead with truth. That kind of belief makes an artist braver.”

The show, directed by Rahul Pandey and created by Deepak Kumar Mishra and Arunabh Kumar, is produced by TVF. The ensemble cast also includes Anandeshwar Dwivedi and Vinay Pathak in key roles. The series follows Dr Prabhat, an idealistic young doctor who takes charge of a neglected Primary Health Centre in a North Indian village. As he tries to bring change, he realises his own transformation is just as important as the reforms he hopes to introduce.

What to expect from Season 2

With Dr Gargi’s storyline now running parallel to the larger themes of healthcare, community dynamics, and personal choices, Season 2 promises to be a richer, more layered narrative. The trailer hints at increased responsibilities and more complex situations for her character, and fans are already speculating about what’s in store.

For Akansha, this is a big moment. After making her mark in films like Guilty and Monica, O My Darling, she’s now cementing her place in the OTT space with a role that demands both vulnerability and strength. And with the show’s grounded storytelling and authentic portrayal of rural India, Gram Chikitsalay Season 2 looks like it’s going to be one of the most talked-about web series this year.

Mark your calendars — the new season drops soon on Prime Video, and Dr Gargi is ready to steal the show.
