Double Occupancy Locks OTT and Satellite Deals
The Tamil fantasy romantic comedy Double Occupancy hit theaters on June 12, and even before its release, the makers had already secured lucrative post-release deals. Industry sources reveal that the satellite television rights have gone to Zee Tamil, while the OTT platform has also been locked. Trade analyst Ramesh Bala tweeted about the strong pre-release buzz, noting that the film has locked both digital and satellite rights ahead of release in a ‘lucrative deal.’
Starring Santhosh and Reshma Venkatesh, along with Samyuktha Viswanathan in a key role, the film follows a unique concept: two individuals share one body, with one identity taking over during the day and the other at night. Creative producer Anandita Sundar described it as a complete fantasy film about a man who biologically turns into a woman every single day. She added, ‘It’s an exciting, fresh concept. The film has love, friendship, family and grief.’ Anandita, daughter of actors Kushboo and Sundar C, said her parents treated this project as her learning process. With positive reviews already pouring in, Double Occupancy is expected to do good business at the box office.
Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past Opens at Rs 2.50 Crore
On the same day, the horror sequel Haunted 3D: Echoes of the Past hit the big screens, and its opening day numbers are in. According to box office tracking site Sacnilk, the film collected a net of Rs 2.50 crore in India from 2,907 shows, with gross collections reaching Rs 2.95 crore. The film saw good occupancy during evening and night shows, especially in key metropolitan cities. Regions like Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh and Chhattisgarh recorded occupancy of 30% to 50%.
Starring Mahaakshay Chakraborty, Chetna Pande, Gaurav Bajpai and Hemant Pandey, the film is a sequel to the 2011 hit Haunted – 3D. The plot follows a man seeking refuge in a remote Indian mountain mansion, only to discover sinister secrets and terror waiting for him. While the VFX received some criticism, audiences praised the atmospheric setting and suspenseful moments. Mahaakshay Chakraborty earned applause for handling the emotionally complex shades of his character.
Audience Verdict and What’s Next
