Buchi Babu Sana’s ‘Peddi’ starring Ram Charan and Janhvi Kapoor has been out for less than a day, but the internet is already buzzing – and not for the right reasons. Fans are calling out the film for its treatment of Janhvi’s character, which they say reduces her to nothing but an object of male desire.

The Objectification Controversy

From the way her character is written to the way the camera lingers on her, viewers are questioning the censorship board’s silence. One fan pointed out that Ram Charan’s character isn’t just admiring her – he’s ‘sexually lusting after her all the time.’

Another social media user highlighted a scene where Ram Charan’s character describes Janhvi’s eyes and lips, but the editor cuts to show her chest and waist. ‘Are you really that clueless that you don’t know what eyes and lips are?’ the user wrote.

A person expressed that the heroine deserved a character, but instead got a string of vulgar and degrading scenes stitched together. ‘It’s a complete embarrassment to every woman in the audience,’ they said.

Social Media Erupts

Users also took aim at the CBFC, questioning why they crack down on violence but allow such sexualization. One wrote, ‘Janhvi’s scenes in the first half are outright vulgar and crass… but obsession mathram censor chesestham… luchas @CBFC_India.’

Fans have been flooding social media with their anger. One user wrote about a scene where a goon undresses Janhvi in public and Ram Charan’s character laughs before beating the goons – calling it ‘crap level sexual objectifying elements, disaster portrayal heroism.’

Another viewer remarked, ‘It’s high time they stop sexualising heroines in film. Literally there’s a scene where hero describes her face but they show her waist and chest. Wtf was that.’

What’s the Film About?

‘Peddi’ is a rural sports drama where Ram Charan plays a celebrated village figure who commands respect as both a sporting star and a community leader. The film blends cricket, wrestling, and sprinting into its narrative. Janhvi Kapoor stars as his love interest, alongside Shiva Rajkumar, Jagapathi Babu, and Divyenndu in pivotal roles.

Directed by Buchi Babu Sana and co-produced by Venkata Satish Kilaru and Ishan Saksena, the film had high expectations. But the backlash over Janhvi’s portrayal has become the biggest talking point.

As the outrage continues, it’s clear that audiences are no longer okay with heroines being treated as eye candy. The question now is whether the makers will respond – and what it means for the film’s box office journey.
