Anu Malik has always been known for his soulful melodies, but did you know that the late Dharmendra was a huge fan of his work? In a recent chat, the composer opened up about his special bond with the He-Man of Bollywood, revealing how much Dharam Ji loved the playful track ‘Pal Pal Na Mane Tinku Jiya’ from ‘Yamla Pagla Deewana’. Malika, as fans fondly call him, shared that their relationship was more like family than just professional.
The Story Behind Tinku Jiya
According to Anu Malik, Dharmendra had a soft spot for the quirky number. “I had always enjoyed an extremely homely relationship with Dharam Ji,” he said, adding that the legendary actor would often praise the song. “Dharam Ji was very fond of my music. In fact, I once came up with a playful number, ‘Pal Pal Na Mane Tinku Jiya’, and Dharam Ji, being extremely joyful himself, used to love that song.” Malik also mentioned that Dharmendra appreciated his melodious side too, treating him like a family member. “Hence we used to meet very often,” he recalled.
A Relationship Like Family
Anu Malik also spoke about his close ties with the Deol family. He grew up admiring Dharmendra’s work and would often sit at his feet, asking about how certain songs were shot. “He did not use to say anything and used to just keep looking at me,” Malik laughed. But it wasn’t just Dharmendra—Malik has a long-standing bond with Sunny Deol as well. He revealed, “I have been very close to Sunny. I even gave the music for his second movie, ‘Sohni Mahiwal’.” The composer clearly feels like a part of the Deol clan, yaar.
Working with Hema Malini
The conversation also touched upon his collaborations with Hema Malini. Malik shared that his first association with Hema Ji was in the film ‘Maarg’, followed by ‘Awaargi’, which she produced. “She really fell in love with my music,” he said, and even gave him regular feedback while he composed songs for her projects. From ‘Ek Chadar Maili Si’ to other hits, the duo created magic together. It’s clear that Anu Malik’s journey in Bollywood is woven with beautiful relationships that go beyond mere professional courtesy—it’s pure family vibe.
