Breaking the language barrier

Ram Charan is finally speaking up about his Bollywood plans, and his answer might surprise you. The ‘RRR’ superstar, who made his Hindi film debut way back in 2013 with the remake of classic ‘Zanjeer’, has now made it clear that he doesn’t believe in dividing cinema by language.

When asked about when fans can expect to see him in another Hindi film, Ram Charan told IANS: “I don’t know Hindi cinema or Telugu cinema. I’m doing an Indian film. I think let’s keep it that way.” The actor’s statement comes as a breath of fresh air in an industry often divided along regional lines.

Besides ‘Zanjeer’, the only other Bollywood appearance Ram Charan has made was a cameo in Salman Khan’s ‘Kisi Ka Bhai Kisi Ki Jaan’ (2023), where he grooved to the song ‘Yentamma’. In ‘Zanjeer’, he starred alongside Priyanka Chopra Jonas, playing ACP Vijay Khanna — a man seeking vengeance for his parents’ murder.

Dreaming of pan-India collaborations

The Telugu superstar isn’t just thinking about Bollywood — he’s thinking about the entire country. “I would like to work with a director from Bombay. I’d like to work with a director from Bengal. I would like to work with a director from Tamil Nadu. I’d like to work with everybody,” he shared, making it clear that geography doesn’t matter when it comes to good cinema.

Interestingly, Ram Charan also made his playback singing debut with the Telugu version of ‘Zanjeer’, titled ‘Thoofan’. He lent his voice to the song ‘Mumbai Ke Hero’, composed by Chirrantan Bhatt. Talk about wearing multiple hats!

The original 1973 ‘Zanjeer’, directed by Prakash Mehra, starred Amitabh Bachchan and Jaya Bachchan, and is considered a landmark film in Indian cinema history. It was the first collaboration between the iconic writer duo Salim-Javed and Big B, leading to legendary films like ‘Deewaar’ and ‘Sholay’.

What’s next for Ram Charan?

While Ram Charan hasn’t announced any specific Bollywood projects yet, his comments suggest he’s open to working across industries. The actor, who recently delivered the massive blockbuster ‘RRR’ directed by SS Rajamouli, is currently one of the most sought-after stars in Indian cinema.

Industry insiders say Ram Charan is carefully choosing his next moves, and a Bollywood project could very well be on the cards. With his pan-India appeal post-‘RRR’, any announcement he makes is bound to create major buzz. For now, fans will have to wait and watch — but if the actor’s words are anything to go by, the best is yet to come.
