Day 22 collections see a dip but film holds strong

Suriya and Trisha Krishnan’s ‘Karuppu’ continues its theatrical run, but daily numbers are slowing down. According to industry estimates, the film collected Rs 70 lakhs net on Day 22, marking a 22.2 percent drop from the previous day’s Rs 90 lakhs. The movie achieved this across 869 shows.

Despite the dip, ‘Karuppu’ has maintained a strong presence for over three weeks. The India net collection currently stands at Rs 190.05 crore, while India gross has climbed to Rs 219.70 crore. From international markets, the film has grossed Rs 80.00 crore so far.

This brings the worldwide gross collection to Rs 299.70 crore, just a short distance away from crossing the Rs 300 crore milestone. Fans are eagerly watching to see if the fantasy actioner can hit that mark in the coming days.

Week 3 performance and occupancy trends

‘Karuppu’ completed its first week with a massive total of Rs 113.85 crore. Day 6 alone brought Rs 10.70 crore with 6,194 shows and 31.3 percent occupancy. Day 7 added another Rs 8.10 crore across 5,140 shows at 30.5 percent occupancy.

Even in its third week, the film held steady. Day 21 had collected Rs 90 lakhs across 1,860 shows with 16.3 percent occupancy, bringing the overall Week 3 total to Rs 21.20 crore.

Occupancy patterns on Day 22 showed night shows leading with 27.09 percent, while morning shows remained lower at 7.36 percent. Afternoon shows recorded 23.45 percent occupancy and evening shows stood at 15.73 percent. Overall occupancy for the day was 20.36 percent.

What makes Karuppu tick: a review

Industry insiders point out that the film’s emotional core is what keeps audiences engaged. A review notes that ‘Karuppu’ roots itself in legal proceedings surrounding a stolen jewels case involving a helpless father and daughter played by Indrans and Anagha Maaya Ravi.

The first half builds investment in their desperation and pursuit of justice, which gives the film its mass-movie hook: an ordinary man challenging a God forced to live as a mortal. RJ Balaji plays Baby Kannan, a crafty lawyer who has gamed the system, while Trisha Krishnan portrays Preethi, a truthful lawyer struggling to win cases despite proving malpractice.

The dramatic tension comes when Baby Kannan challenges Vettai Karuppu (Suriya) to win the case without divine powers, creating stakes that feel rooted in human struggles rather than invincibility.
