Shatrughan Sinha’s unwavering loyalty to Mamata Banerjee

Actor-turned-politician Shatrughan Sinha has made it clear that he has no plans to abandon TMC supremo Mamata Banerjee during her current political crisis. In an exclusive chat, the Asansol MP asserted that he would stand by her no matter what, recalling how she supported him when he was going through a rough patch after losing the Patna election.

“I will not leave Mamata Banerjee in her difficult time. She stood by me when I was facing a tough time after losing the election in Patna,” Sinha said, making his stance crystal clear. The veteran politician also acknowledged that some party members may have left Banerjee due to compulsions, fears, or allurements, but his principled stand remains unchanged.

Sinha’s principled stand amid TMC turmoil

Following the TMC’s defeat in the recent West Bengal assembly elections, the party has witnessed a split in its legislature party as well as among its MPs. However, Sinha remains unfazed. He emphasized that Banerjee is a street fighter who still commands a 41 per cent vote share in the state, referring to the assembly election results.

“I am grateful to those who invited me to join the TMC rebel group, but my principled stand is I should stand by Mamata Banerjee now. As of now, I won’t change my path,” Sinha added, shutting down any speculation about him jumping ship.

What this means for TMC’s future

Sinha’s loyalty comes as a boost for Banerjee, who is facing one of the toughest phases of her political career. With several TMC leaders deserting the party, Sinha’s decision to stay put sends a strong message of solidarity. The actor-turned-politician, who joined TMC in 2019 after leaving BJP, has often spoken about his bond with Banerjee, and this latest statement only reinforces that connection.

As the political drama unfolds in West Bengal, all eyes are now on whether other TMC leaders will follow Sinha’s example or continue to defect. For now, Sinha has made his position clear: he’s with Mamata, come what may.
