Ismail Darbar recalls the emotional moment

Music composer Ismail Darbar recently shared a deeply personal moment from the sets of Hum Dil De Chuke Sanam, revealing that Salman Khan broke down while listening to the iconic song ‘Tadap Tadap’. In a chat with FilmyGyan, Darbar recalled that during a playback session, Sanjay Leela Bhansali was listening to the track when a particularly intense note hit. Suddenly, the room fell silent. Darbar asked, ‘Brother, what’s wrong?’ and Salman replied, ‘Whenever I listen to this song, it causes me a lot of pain. Please don’t play it in front of me.’

Darbar added, ‘I have seen Salman Khan extremely restless at that moment. Literally, I have seen Salman crying out loud and shouting. I witnessed that side of him myself.’ The revelation has sent fans into a frenzy, as the song remains one of Bollywood’s most heartbreaking anthems.

Bhansali remembers the love on set

In a previous interview, Bhansali had opened up about the warm and loving atmosphere on the sets of the 1999 film. ‘Yes, there was love in the air. But not just between them; there was a lot of affection among all of us. Zohra Sehgalji, Helen Aunty, Salman, Aishwarya, Vikram Gokhale, Smita Jayekar—we were like one big family. I don’t think I’ve had such a fulfilling experience shooting any other film,’ the filmmaker told us.

The film, starring Salman Khan and Aishwarya Rai, is still celebrated for its music and chemistry. However, the real-life romance between the two stars ended bitterly in 2002, and they never shared screen space again.

Aishwarya’s silence on the split

Years after the breakup, Aishwarya Rai Bachchan addressed the painful chapter in a 2012 interview with Simi Garewal. ‘I think I have quite shut it out. I think I wouldn’t want to get into looking at it any which way and especially on a public platform. I really wouldn’t want to,’ she said. Aishwarya later married Abhishek Bachchan in 2007, and the couple welcomed daughter Aaradhya in 2011.

Salman Khan, meanwhile, has rarely spoken about the relationship publicly. The emotional confession about ‘Tadap Tadap’ adds a new layer to the song’s legacy, leaving fans wondering about the personal pain behind the melody.
